1150GSA Spruce Up

Have to say I'm with Fanum - why go to all that effort just to garage it and ride something else? Might as well sell it and let someone get some use out of it. :nenau

I like a clean bike but that is taking the piss ! :D

I do get that some folk enjoy cleaning cars and bikes ( my old man is one of them,I am not) I like cleaning shoes strangly enough.

I can even see the point of having it so clean that it can be an "ornament" in the house or put away as a long long term investment but i genuinely believe they should be ridden which is what i do and worry about the cleaning later

I don't see the conflict between a clean well maintained bike and one that is used. I ,like you, take great pleasure in trying to improve my bike. I also enjoy taking extended trips on my bike, two of the longer ones being 8500+ miles. I think that those that only get pleasure from their bike by riding it and having others maintain it or maintain it marginally are missing out on one of the great pleasures of being a bike owner. Think you have done a great job on your bike.

Well said - totally agree - a balance between riding and maintenance/cleaning - nothing beats riding a bike that you have serviced and know inside out

I think I'm also in the clean bike brigade. But it doesn't mean i don't ride it (i do daily, all weathers). OPs might slot into the latter category. Ahem.

But i don't get Fanum's take on it. When i come to do work on the bike i want bolts to unscrew, i don't want to be fighting with a mile of crud (which can be hiding faults/corrosion). If you look after something and i don't mean OCD level, it'll last a damned long time. I had my ST1100 for nearly 18yrs and it was well looked after and did 235k miles on it. MOT guy couldn't believe it's age each yearly visit. Sadly is owner couldn't claim the same . If it hadn't been nicked I might still be riding it! Tho I'm secretly happy cos it meant i discovered the 1150, albeit very late !

There's a world of difference between looking after it whilst riding it, and
The aim is to leave it as good as new… then put it in the Carcoon bubble and ride the GTR!

It would be a nice bike to come across in years to come when every other bike is a minger. Why not keep it in a bubble ? Who says bikes should be ridden? There are no rules . if you want to ride it ,ride it, if you don't dont. Same goes for cleaning/ serving.
Pleasure comes in many forms, if I had the space I'd have bikes in the house mostly unused just to look at

Clean bike

I'm one of the clean bike brigade
In fact I clean my cars just the same
Must have got it in the AA
My father in laws cars were immaculate
My dad was ex RAF ex Police he would never let us have dirty shoes
So I just love stuff clean look after it.It will look after you
Don't mind the bike getting dirty just spend 2/3 getting it clean again

I'm with the garage queen brigade.... nice bike john:thumb2

Thanks for the positive comments.

It's definitely a garage queen. No point in riding it now that I've gone to these lengths (that's what my new Africa Twin will be for)

I've run out of cotton ear buds, must dash, completion photos to follow once she's had a service, to which she will be trailered.

I love ornaments!!

Totally agree with that. Riding my bike and cleaning bike. Bliss !

John, that's a fantastic looking bike. Well done. Any more information on the silencer ? Cost ? What does it sound like ? Thanks.
That's a Mivv silencer.

Same as the one I just fitted on my bike

I got mine for £216 new from eBay (came from Italy)

I think it sounds OK without being stupidly loud :)

I like riding my bike, but I also like cleaning it.

Rode it all winter and just finished a 3day clean, which all my bikes get once a year.

Lovely 1150, but it will be a shame to wrap it in cotton wool, ride it and clean it again next year.
