1150GSA Tank on 1150GS - not!

From the photo it looks like there is room to drill a hole in the frame bracket that positions the back end of the tank where you want it.

This maybe my OCD - but "brackets and holes" are not going to allow the plastic trim that sits under the tank to fit as the bracket looks way too far forward, also as it sits down on the frame it looks like to will foul the forward piece that is welded on...

I would have to get it done properly....... even if it costs me a few hundred on a re-spray,.

If I could not afford the re-spray i'd still get it done and blow it over myself with Zinc primer.... till I could afford it.... if it's done carefully I reckon you could save the tank paint... and you won't see the mount under the trim...

Maybe ask James Sherlock for some cash back to offset some of your costs.....

Saw cut near the top of the bracket from the front towards the rear, stopping just at the point where it's folded out again.

Bend the bracket back and fix a small stiffening bracket with screws, although you may not even need to do that.

Simple :beerjug:

I'm nervous here.
Before going any further to bike side mods I would fill the tank and look for any possible leaks.

Only just seen this post.

My thoughts are totally in line with Steptoe and Timolgra... Surely not a problem to re-work it, complete with a new hole for the mounting grommet?

The tank was indeed sent to me with a bent mounting arm, and sherlock's are currently denying there was a problem. I need to point them in the direction of this very post. The tank is with the panel beaters and they can see that the arm has been bent, and will do all is necessary to straighten it, if needed apply heat to the tank and provide the mechanical persuasion required to move it back into place. If the tank is damaged during the process however I will have to ask for a refund as it will definitely be unfit for purpose.
What's more upsetting is the tank that is now for sale on Ebay for half the price is obviously much straighter.
You can see from these 2 pictures the one on the left (the one I sadly bought) has a bent mounting arm compared to the tank on the right (the tank I should have bought).
I will keep all up to date with any further news - thank you for your interest!!
Liam

job done

as you can see from the picture the story has a happy ending. The panel beaters put some heat into the leg, and it behaved well and went back to where it should have been. Not surprisingly the tank now fits perfectly, and there was no damage to the external finish, which is now putting the rest of the bike to shame.
I now have a white 1150GS tank for sale if anyone might be interested. I will take some pictures and advertise it on here.
oh no my bike is upside down!

I'm glad it's sorted but disappointed and surprised by Sherlocks approach to the problem

I once went there with 5k cash in my pocket to buy a bike I'd seen in there advert. But don't go unannounced on a Monday morning, I was rudely told they were too busy and had no time to show me the bike due to mailing out weekend orders, so I went elsewhere and bought private. Funny how things go !

I'm glad you got your tank sorted. White's a great colour............just like my bike :thumb2
