Hi all I assume that a 1150gsa tank is a straight fit on the 1150gs but does anything else get in the way ?? Seat/beak from the 1150gs would fit?

I have also read about references to a 41l tank? Was this aftermarket?

Many thanks

Your challenge will be finding a tank in decent condition!

...for less than £750... ;)

I did it in 2002 before it was obvious how straightforward it is.

Having had both, I'd advise not fitting the Touratech 41 litre tank unless you have a real need for the extra fuel. It restricts what type of crashbars you can fit - and makes the 1150 look even uglier... :D

Although - if you happen across one for sale - you'll likely find one cheaper than a BMW 30 litre tank. I'd advertise here asking for a 30 litre one if I were you. Shipping to you might not be cheap, either, though. Try to get the fuel pump plate and innards with it, as the fuel float differs from the fun-size tank and your original won't read right (so I understand anyway)...

I struggled to get the complete plate and innards but managed to get hold of just the float and arm which was easy enough to swap over and now reads correctly.

WOW thanks for all the replies guys....

complete information as always :)

The TT monster tank looks an expensive option, even if you can find one. Motorworks want £485 for a GSA tank, which may need paint matching.

If it's range anxiety couldn't you fit an aux fuel cell behind the luggage rack - I think they come in around £75

BTW, isn't that the rest stop up the top of the Ofenpass Mike O? It was infested with cyclists last time we were there - some bikers we followed up almost came to grief on the hairpin bends just below; they tried an ambitious overtake around the outside of some slow cars on the bends, but forgot to allow for descending high speed cyclists.

Yes, back in 2011, I think. :thumb2

I think you'll find that the price Motorworks are quoting is when they are in stock - ie just about never. £700 tanks (some with dents in them) are being hawked on eBay - the Touratech tanks I've seen for sale here and on ebay have struggled to find a buyer (although it as been a couple of years since I saw one listed) - I'm pretty sure the last one I saw sold for about £300. I'm not sure if they are made any more, but I seem to remember being somewhere in the £1200 range new when they were.

Don't bother with TT tank... It may hold 41 litres but five litres sit in the lobes and are unusable :D

I remember filling mine up once, when I'd literally run dry as I rolled into the forecourt. I filled up at a pump that was opposite a stunning young lady filling her BMW convertible and enjoyed standing behind her in the queue while we all waited to pay.
When she got to the front, the cashier looked at her and looked at me, then asked her for £40 and asked me for £10. She looked shocked and, holding up her tenner, said she'd only put £10 worth in. The cashier realised his mistake and we all laughed.
£40 was squeezed into that tank in one fill up, though...

Not if you have the scavenge pipe fitted - I think I put 39 litres in, one fill-up... :D

Agreed, I refilled my TT tank with a similar amount once just to prove it was picking up fuel at the right level. I believe the tank itself is lighter than the Adventure tank, plus the extended lobes mean it also carries the fuel lower when partially full, so the CofG is lower.
