Hearing and reading many bad reports of the finish on the new toilet and also several people saying after a test ride of the 1190 saying that they were not impressed with the standard of finish, I've been giving my bike a real good cleaning after my trip to Europe. It was really grimy and grim and I thought it would never clean up like new again, but I have been pleasantly surprised. Despite the awful weather on several days, despite horrible brown cack being deposited on it by floodwater, it has cleaned up a treat. No flaky paint, the powder-coated frame is blemish free, the panels still have all their paint and the wheel spokes are like new. There's not one bad bit of finish I can find to moan about.

Lovin' this bike.....:bounce1

Paint finish on mine is much better than my previous bmws. Not sure about spokes and fasteners though, as there appears to be rather less use of stainless.

Davy,
As posted elsewhere, I am itching for a change, and it is between a WC and an 1190 Adventure. Test rode the 1190 last year and liked it a lot apart from that multi function switch and the noise it makes. But it is my kind of bike in most other respects. I like my current R1200GS apart from the toughness of the finish so your info on the KTM is more important to me than the odd little issue like the air filter and waste heat which I can probably deal with or live with. I am test riding the WC on the 1st of August, so will probably make a decision then, but the WC will have to be good to risk another biodegradeable bike and the 1190 with the current extras included seems a good deal.

I think KTM don't use stainless for spokes due to the process reducing strength/making them more brittle, or so I've read elsewhere... :duno

no they are stainless spokes , of which there are many grades , its the nipples that are total rubbish in my opinion....almost white metal.
I also got the 2014 chain and sprockets fitted as the 2013 are pretty poor ( or they were on my bike) FOC From KTM by the way.
I also liked the noise of the bike with the akra on....big plus point for me.

Davy I noticed from your pics you appear to be a bit of a perfectionist ;) ( very tidy bike and garage)
Can we see a close up of your nipples please to compare :chickendance

Cleaned mine once in first 3k miles, a few black spots on the inside of the silencer I'm not too bothered about and a small blister (popped) on the silencer end cap , I think its powder coated, otherwise all good.
Riding it, however is many times more fun than my 06 GS was! (and I thought I was happy with that)

All cleaned up and back together (bar the Wings seat coolers) with the Wings end can back on. Really glad I put the oe end can on for my trip as it took all the crap. And a view of my nipples. :D

Cookie & Davy F

If you replace the stock silencer with a Wings shorty or the longer one, do you have to remap the controller?

Ray

Not according to the bloke that makes them. I've not heard of anyone remapping one at all.

No re-map needed as long as you use either of the two baffles that come with the pipe (I have the large insert fitted which is throaty enough). Run without any baffles and the maker does recommend getting it mapped.

Immaculate bike Davy
Mine don't look anything like that
How many miles you done on it ?

6846 miles as of today with almost 4k in 17 days during my wee holiday.

The bike was fantastic. It easily covered the miles, was economical despite the speeds I was doing, comfortable with only a bit of turbulence off the screen. Kept the chain well lubed and didn't have to adjust same until I got home (4k miles). Handled the awful weather with aplomb and I felt really secure in the bad days I had to ride through. Buy another in a heartbeat ! Only the new Africa Twin, should it turn out to be a cracker, would steer me away.
