Anyone got a way to solve the wind noise on the 1190?

Love the bike, but not the wind noise.

2016 1190s. Had the R screen on, so noisy, I've put the std S screen back on but not tested it.

Does anyone have a magic cure for it? Or any screens laying around I can try / buy?

Cheers.

I had the same issue with my 15 plate 1190S. Bought a Laminar Lip spoiler and that made it a lot better. It wasn't the cheapest option but well worth it

The perennial 1190 problem. Never 100% solver AFAIK.

R screen and Puig clip on spoiler on my bike. Not perfect but been good enough for nearly 8 years now. I've had the S screen (awful), the Touring screen (worse) and the original 1290 screen (better than the previous 2, but not by much and it looks stupid). I still have the 1290 screen and tried it again a couple of years back - Went straight back to the R + spoiler.

Some say the mirrors are the issue. Take them off or swap for something else.

I do wear ear plugs.

I tried everything, until I found the perfect cure several years later.

Sell the bike and buy a GSA.

Do you know which puig spoiler? I’m looking on eBay and there seems to be a few part numbers?

I don’t wear earplugs because on my intercom usually.

Tried loads on mine, MRA, Puig, Airflow, 1290 SAT, Std and with / without spoilers.

Summer riding locally I would use stock - and live with a bit of noise and a few flies on visor in exchange for cooler air, and for longer run you can add a clip-on spoiler.

For winter / touring the Puig Touring was OK - great in some ways, but huge, so even on lowest setting with seat on highest you won't get any cool breeze in your face - but it does stop a lot of the noise and you can do a 3,000 mile tour and not have to clean your visor ;-)

Let me throw a curve ball in here

I had dreadful issues with wind noise on my Multistrada Pikes peak but oddly only in my left ear
That noise went away with the purchase of the Streetfighter

It is now back with the KTM 1390 SDR and again only in my left ear

Same helmet BTW

The problem is the LHS mirror turbulating ( is that a word) the air and directing noisy air into the LHS of helmet

Lts of folk dont get this as they are either taller so out of that bit of noisy air or shorter

I would suggest taking the mirrors off and trying it as I did with the Multi which is how I discovered the cause

It doesn't seem to have a part number on it, but here's a photo. Although adjustable, it only really works when in this position. Any closer to the screen or different angle and it's not much use.

The flies are an optional extra.

I've fitted some spacers to the std screen so will see how that fares next ride.

It’s the mirrors.
I replaced mine on the 2016 1190S with the 990 mirrors. They are more of a right angle and it massively reduces the turbulance

I took the mirrors totally off and it still seemed pretty bad to be honest.

The std screen, and also the "R" sports screen has a little flick at the top. It doesn't seem right to me, like it would cause turbulence. Is this why spoilers seem to work well? They are taking the top lip out of the equation.

At the moment I've got a Puig sport screen and it's a more natural smooth shape, and is much quieter.

I'm playing about with spacing. It comes with spacers for the bottom but not the top, so I'm just spacing out the top to test, but it's deffo an improvement for me.
