11th October 2008 - Wiltshire Green Lane Rideout - Big trailie friendly

Hi AdamA,

Thinking to join the run too, new to the forum and riding a BWM HP2 ... first time out with the HP2 and not sure about the tyres (Scorpion S/T) what do you think?
I think:
...it will contain some muddy patches and some fords and the like.....
....I would recommend using TKCs or similar not road biased rubber tho.:burnout:

At the end of the day its up to you. If you don't mind throwing it at the scenery we don't mind waiting for you to pick it up.:thumb2

:(.... a weekend or so too soon- I move down to Devon on that day ....:blast

You all now will not have the pleasure of seeing the Captn crash his 12GSA off road....

I'm sure there will be a next time .... :thumb

Have fun and watch out for Pinkytiff - he is an off road god ....

Hi

Will you take two more riders: Africa Twin & 990Adv?
Not BMs I know but thought I'd give it a try :)

Time to get the Africa Twin dirty again :D

Thanks Adam, see you Saturday morning Pole.

Cheers,
Slanty

Trailer!

Shouldn't take you too long tbh.
You riding or trailering/vanning?

Adam, don't have a trailer. Anyway needing to get it back home in one piece tempers the red mists (in theory). Driving down steady, part worn Karoo on the back.

Rode with Pole a month ago.. looked pretty handy to me. (most people do!) See you there Pole! :thumb Looks like a good mix of bikes, Just need an S10 yam to round it off!

Cant wait:bounce1

Cheers

Have a great time guys. I joined Adam and his fellow guides on the last one and they did a stunning job of helping everyone enjoy themselves.I had hoped to come on this one as well but am now taking LOML for a w/e treat to make up for all the time I have spent riding my bike since the last Wiltshire outing. It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it..

Looks like the weather might even be good for it (see here) :)

Oh well, I've just jinxed that :blast ... prepare for rain!

Shall keep an eye out for you chaps - probably bump into you :)

We will be on 2 KTM 950/990's ...

(We're there for the weekend)

Brilliant Day Out

10/10

Yep, brill pics from a great day - 10/10 Adam, even tho we did lose you at the end! :thumb

So, Billynomates - does your location need updating or were you going on to Worthing after Winchester?!

My pleasure Guys.

Glad you enjoyed it.

As it was billed as a non novice big trailie day I tried to keep the route a little challenging without putting people off for life. Hopefully (and it seems it from the feedback) I got the balance right.:)

My GSA was lovely and clean when I got home BTW. :nenau

Great pics Slanty. Anyone else get any? I forgot to take my camera out of my pocket all day.:blast

Pinky, you didn't lose me I just took the scenic route.:augie

Great Pics, glad everyone had fun.....My Self (Blue DRZ back Marker) & Scots Jon (Yellow DRZ back Marker) had a blast and were really impressed how well you guys handled your chieften tanks....sorry GS's ;)

Anytime you want to go again I will always run back marker :)

First things first....

a HUGE thanks to Adam for organising this ride out, and for putting up with me for two nights to make it possible for me to do the ride cheers mate !

Friday

after a hectic few days or working away from home I drove 120 miles NORTH... to get my bike before setting off on the 300 miles ride SOUTH....

I left at 2.30pm just as the weekend traffic was building and the further south I went the worse it got...

I eventually left the M1 in Northants to take to the back roads around 5pm and after an impromptu excursion on a greenlane(bridleway) thanks to the Zumo or Adam (I'm unsure which) which was an experience with a full tank of fuel and full luggage on board.. I arrived at Fareham to be greeted with a cup of coffee and a PIzza..

Beer was bought and consumed then off to bed.

Sat

dawned all nice and foggy..I set off on a nice twisty back road route to the RV point which would have been lovely if not for the fog...top entertainment riding along unable to see the road more than 50yds ahead but with bright sun and blue sky's above as the fog was that low !

Arrived at the RV to see a motley looking bunch of pukka enduro bikes, a couple of DRZ's and the heavy weaponry of a "herd" of GS's and GSA's and a couple of Austrian light artillery in the form of some KTM Adventures...

Our Glorious leader gave us the do's and don'ts inc the marker system
BigTralieDayOct2008012.jpg

and off we went.

It didn't bode well when upon starting one of the KTM's sounded like a cat was stuck in the engine..

still only a loose clutch bolt eh ?

Having progressed to the first lanes, I have to admit to being pleasntly surprised at howcompetent the Panzer was on the loose stuff, OK it'll never be a pukka enduro bike but it was surprisingly agile and sure footed...Mud and slippy chalk were a tad different but on Gravel and dry earth it was excellent.
BigTralieDayOct2008017.jpg

The first large puddle nearly caused a few casualties amongst the Panzer divisions but on the whole no worries...
BigTralieDayOct2008013.jpg

Onward and upward..I was really enjoying it by now..marking junctions in the trail.

a pic of Jazzy in flight..

So far...so good...I'd stalled my Panzer in a large puddle and had a mild panic when it wouldn't start first push of the button but it soon fired up with no problems...
