I think the stock price for a 24k service on an 800ST (final drive belt needs replacing too) is about £800, compared to a lot less on a 1200 bike, about £400 and somewhere in between £400 and £800 for a 24k on a 800GS

Don't have receipts to hand, but those figures are way out JB. Most expensive services are 18k (and multiples) as they include a fork oil change, but still not anywhere near that much.

Where did I say I can't afford to service it ? I asked for advice from others as to how it compared to their dealer costs as I know they can vary a lot from dealer to dealer. I can do some of the servicing myself but I also asked about self servicing against re-sale as it might be better for a newer bike to have dealer stamps in it.

Where did I say I didn't research running costs ? I've done 13,000 miles on it in 11 months. I think I know exactly how much it costs to run thanks Dick. Aggression is usually the tool of the truly ignorant try to brow beat those they feel inferior to .......

Also, having only been biking for 3 years, do I really want to have a go and find I've fucked up a £6000 trying to save pennies ? we're not talking about air cooled singles here ....
