Been meaning to get round to this for a while. This is my 12,000 miles of happyness thread. Had my 12GSA for just over a year now (bought from new). It's been an incredible year and all the signs are that the next year will be just as much fun.....

I sold my ZX10 to get onto the GSA (quite a change of bikes, although I felt previous ownership of a Tenere qualified me for the class)

I haven't forgotten the nerves and excitement when my bike arrived at the dealership just down the road from home....

<img src="http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee148/biker_garfield/R1200GSinabox.jpg">

and that moment when I set eyes on her.....:tears of joy.....:rob (love at first sight).....:o

I picked the bike up on 1st Sept 07 and within the first week I had put 2,200 miles on the clock having done my 600 miles in 2 days alone (on the Saturday and Sunday). On the Tuesday morning when the dealership opened, the bike was in for a 600 mile service, later that day I was on a ferry for Norway and Sweden

The miles have just rolled by as I've added loads of holidays to my list, seeing France, Belgium, Switzerland, loads of Scotland, bit of England and Wales to the list as well (see my signature line for some more pics and the like)

In terms of cost which normally interests folks....

New Back tyre: changed at 8,000 miles or thereabouts in Calais (about 200 Euro I think - kinda needed it doing)

New Front Tyre: changed at 12,000 miles

Brake pads: not changed yet (still like new....;) )

Oil: I've added two litres in 12,000 miles, the dealer have done their bit as well

600 mile service: (can't find the invoice), did think the price was a bit steep when compared to others who had similar

6,000 mile service: £317.49 (std service done at 5,998 miles which incl the HIDs being fitted by the dealer along with a few other odds and sods)

12,000 mile service: £305.38 (12K and Annual Service, which included a new front tyre being fitted)

Warranty claims/repairs: I got the ring antennae done at 12,000 miles, although I haven't had any problems with the old one and the mirrors for some bizarre reason, I didn't ask for them to be done, (although they do vibrate a load less)

Extras: have added Chunk on here's entire catalogue of parts, an Akrapovic exhaust (baffles out....:green gri ), HID50's, BMW ADV panniers and classy inner bags, Givi Top Box and when you start adding money spent on new helmets and jackets and the like (incl Sat Nav and other odds and sods), I'm too frightened to add up the cost of all the extras (never mind petrol, insurance and tax)....:o

Dealer: I've had nothing but fantastic service from MCE in Dalkeith.....they've gone above and beyond the call of duty when my dumb ass called in for help, for something or other....:blast ....they richly in my book deserve their Top 10 status.....:thumb

So the bike went in for its last service just a few weeks back, shockingly it was done at 12,000 miles exactly on pretty much her first birthday.....(proof below....:blast ....not even planned for it to be that precise.....:o )

What about the future, sure there's gonna be a lot of fun ahead....:bounce1 .....Morocco in April 09 will hopefully set the tone.....:D .....most importantly enjoying my bike in the company of some magnificent tossers.....:bow .....as well as those quiet weekends away together.....:D

My bike is currently at 13,500 miles or thereabouts and all is good.....

Am I still in the honeymoon period with the bike, definitely not, I'm pretty discerning in what I spend my money on and I've got a good 'un (which I suspect many people have), sure she may develop problems down the road but that IMHO is no reason to be unhappy (c'est la vie).....I just love my bike.....:hug

just been thinking how happy I am with my 1200GS as well.

Its had no faults (couple of seals done during services)

Is far sweeter to ride than either of my 1150s

and has done 60,000 since April '06.

only thing I would like is a higher top gear like standard 1150GS

am sure it would reduce fuel consumption by 10%

downside for BMW is that there is no point buying a new one

I haven't ridden the older BM's so have no frame of reference for what you've said (should really get a shot on one to see what they're like), the 12GSA is pretty spirited but still allows me to push 320's out of a tank, 350 on one particularly good day....and I think there was still a little left....:bounce1

I remember first meeting you on the 31st August 2007 when Marcin was leaving on his trip to Katmandu. You were just itching to get the bike out on the road but had to wait till the next day. Likewise I love my bike and the community that comes with it. I have made a lot of sacrifices to get mine but on a day like today, when we were all out on a run together, its worth every penny.

Mine has also been reliable and Motorrad Central West replaced the ring antenna before a trip down South with Skye and Motorrad Central East replaced mirrors during 6,000 service (likewise I had not noticed any real problem). Personally I have had great service from both Dealer locations.

Hopefully our bikes will continue to give good service for many years to come :beerjug:

I've only managed a pathetic 4070 miles since April but I have enjoyed every one of them. ( well except the bit on the motorway in the pissing rain and wind)

I can't see me getting another bike for quite some time- nothing else comes close:clap:clap

And I fully agree- Motorrad Central are tops.:bow

Always nice to have a positive and happy thread! I love my 12gs also :)

I have to admit that after a session of reading about other people's problems on here, I feel some level of stress about the purchase (more than 3 years ago now)...

But then I get on it and ride it, and completely forget about all the potential problems... to the point that I've ridden it to Morocco and back, Norway, lots of places....

Thoughts of the risk of having to make a call to get home just fade in comparison to the shear joy of riding the thing...

A positive thread for all the detractors. :rob

Best wishes for the future mate........I remember having a wee look inside the big cardboard womb the day before your baby was born:o:D......... I've had two new twelves in the past year although the second one was bought only after I was tied to a chair by Central East staff and made to watch Long Way Doon for over three hours.............!;) Having said that I'm sure they've all worked at Guantanamo Motorrad at some point..........! :D:D:D

Great bikes.......even better dealers.......although I still dont see why they are required to act as a quality assurance dept for the factory in order to keep folk happy!

I picked up my white 1200GSA on 7th September 2007 and have now done 8985miles, will hit 9000 on the way home tonight,

It's been great too, no problems, couple of tyres replaced and now feels like it has been 'run-in'. Sweet as a nut........:)

Nicely put Garfield:thumb

Just booked mine in for it`s 36,000 miles service and it gets better and better. Can`t say every mile has be perfect but it never, ever fails to put a smile on my face.:D

Happy chappy here also

:clap:clap:clap

Nice post Garfield - it's good to see someone posting somthing positive about the 1200.

Mines a keeper too - 13K and never missed a beat:thumb2

I've no reason to complain.
Roughly 22K miles,no leaks or mechanical break downs. Only issue was a defunt battery 3 days before warranty was over (1 year on battery according to Dealer).
Had antenna ring replaced under BMW campaign, and computer upgrade (bike now runs smoother at 4000 rpm's).
One major trip 9400 miles when bike was new, currently on third set of tires.
Oil changed every 4-5000 miles with the most maybe a half of litre of oil added during this duration.
Only gripe and "not a complaint",bike is rather "tall" and the saddle needed changing.
All in all, quite happy with the bike and it's operation.

13,000

Well 13,000 miles on my 07 GSA and bar a crap battery had no problems so far. 2 sets of tyres and loads of fun :D top bike :thumb2

22500 miles

bought bike 19 months ago
i have ridden 22500 miles
and have had a great time - perfect bike
most important - the more miles you do the better the bike runs :thumb

This thread reminds me of the Peter Sellers line, 12,000 miles of 'a penis' on a 07 1200.

Mine is an 08 with just under 8K on the clock - hasn't missed a beat well happy :beerjug
