12 year warranty in fuel strips?

If the 12 years stated is true they're gonna need a pretty big spare parts warehouse to keep all of us going. Is that 12 years from the original date of the bike, or 12 years since the last strip failed? ( I'm now into year 2 of my latest fuel strip.)
 
Some bikes fail time and again. How many of these failures are down to poor techniques at the dealers workshop

I just stopped doing it on mine because they kept failing. Unless they have a fix which is why they now have a 12 year warranty I still wouldn't bother, even for free.
By the looks of it nobody here has heard of it which seems odd.

Waste of time they don't work end of story.
Now on my fourth and it's playing up after
3 months. Won't put another in.Not alot you
can do about it really bit of a pity.
Still a great bike though.
And my next bike will no doubt be a GS.
Warts and all.
 
Hope it's not the case, but Probably just a USA thing. Like when VW gave a 10 year warranty on dsg gearboxes.

Us mugs in Europe will likely just keep paying.
 
So if my new fuel strip on my 2009 GSA has a 2 yr warranty, will I still have to pay labour charges to replace it when it fails again?
 
My understanding is if you paid for the replacement including fitting it will get replaced free of any charge for 2 years Inc labour. If you only bought the part and fitted it yourself or got an independent to fit it you will have to pay the labour.
 
Thanks. I paid £179 at the BMW stealers for them to supply and fit. So that will average at £90/year. When selling the GS bikes, BMW may as well just sell customers a £7.50/monthly fuel gauge subscription service!! :D
 
Does anybody know the fuel strip output values on a full tank?
Disconnect the biatch and put a resistor (or whatever) in line to force the ECU to show a full tank.

There's a write up somewhere on ADVrider with exactly that mod.
 
Yes there are several threads here about fooling the guage with resistors. Doesn't fix anything but it gets rid of the warning.
 
My one started playing up yesterday, the bikes only done 7,500 miles (2012 GSA). Showing 78 mile range after filling the tank to the brim. It's still under warrantee, but I don't know if I can be arsed to take it in if it's only going to shortly break again. I always use the trip meter for judging fuel stops.

Get it took in. Mine broke a couple years ago. Got it repaired under warranty and never had a problem since.
 
Its a very quick job for the dealers to do. My bike was in and out in an hour. Ask for a loan bike and see it as an opportunity to have a ride on something different for an hour.

This is exactly how I ended up buying my GSA...
