1200 Conversion

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my last Thread 1200RT.

After alot of thought and 3 test rides later I am to be converted from 1200GS to 1200RT.

I have nothing against the GS,I have had three, 1100/1150 and 1200, but I feel my biking needs have changed. I will miss the fun factor of the GS,but I
am looking forward to :- Good wind protection,bigger fuel tank,warm bum, better luggage,radio/cd,the ability to adjust my suspension at the flick of a switch and finally in my opinion better braking.

Prehaps I'm just getting old!!

Good choice Pal, horses for courses. I like mine and I've been Be Emming, every model for 32 Years. St Clears be afraid, I reside about 15 miles from Cardigan. Might see you around, what colour is yours?

Was going to buy 1200RT SE for delivery end of March, but went to Ryedale for another test ride and they had just had one in 4 months old,1300mls fully
loaded.So I bought it, hope to pick it up this weekend.

The 1200 RT is indeed a very fine riding bike, it belies its appearance, the seat position is damn near perfect because the wheelbase is a bit longer but the engine is in the same position and the seat is a bit further back.
I was much impressed when I tried one, it goes like the clappers and the cockpit is wonderfully protected, very nice design.

PS it doesn't have those hideous oval girly clocks either.

Congrats on your new steed .
I also changed , I had the 1150 GS , but found I missed the weather protection .

The 1200RT is a very accomplished bike , and I've no doubt you'll love it .

I have just traded my 1200gs last week on a 1200rt and just love the smooth ride. I had the RT out on a gravel road today and it handles great. I won't miss the 1200GS at all.

I now have to install my Baehr intercom system

I don't use it much now .............I found that by putting the seat in the highest position , I can get comfortable enough - must be something to do with body positioning .only drawback being I tip toe even more when stopped , I'll just have to be more aware [ I fell off my 1150 enough times cos of this thank you very much !! ] .

RT1200 - pillion comfort

I've an RT out on demo at the moment which is likely to be added to the fleet. I'm pleased with the weather protection, but am still getting used to the narrow bars! Also, driving in the rain in the dark takes some getting used to given the general negative effect of the screen on the helmet visor and the "clearing of mist".

Apart from this and while comfort is great for me, my good lady wife as pillion tells me that the screen seems to upset the airflow for her, as a result of which she gets loads of buffeting. This hasn't been a feature of the previous 1150 GS and GSA over the past few years. Anyone else had these issues?

Also, the bike suffers badly in my view from cross winds. I guess this is down to the large covered in panels! Despite these "niggles" I still like it enough though for all is good points! And in case I don't, I think theres a GS12 on the way in place of her 1100s! Now, where is that magic money tree where the golden goose lives!

I'm sure, that like others, you will enjoy the R12RT Pal. up until December 2005 I had both the GS and the RT at low total miles, but to be honest the one, the 12RT just does it for me, at the moment hope to see you around.

This was by far our longest ride on the RT, 500ks. I asked Barb (my wife)how she felt when we got home as only 3 months ago she thought her riding days was over as her back would have been in a lot of pain also her right knee. Even her doctor said she should not ride. Well I’m happy to report she had no pain and Barb even said this would be the first time ever she has had no pain on a long ride. The suspension soaks the sharp jolts from the road up where the 1200GS would just pass the hard jolts through.



I enjoyed the ride as well. The bike has a very nice gear box and the power seems to be seamless. The riding position is great. I’m going to try the seat height on high for the next ride just to see.



One of the best parts of the bike is the screen and being able to direct the wind flow while riding.

I have had to eat my words on what I have said about the RT

RT v. GS

Everytime I vist 'my' dealer in Lyon they seem to be unpacking crates - and now it seems that they all contain RT's. Until the photgraph on this thread I had never imagined it could look so good without the cases. However living in an area of bumpy muddy roads before I can reach the autoroutes I think I will stick to my GS - at least for another year.
