A about a month back on way to work bike cut out on me after about 3/4 of an hour riding in heavy rain.
Bike wouldnt restart, recovered home, that evening started ok so following day sets out to use it again gets 20 yards, cuts out with EWS error showing on restart.
Bike off to dealers, diagnosed as problem with the key and antenne. new one fitted.
Yesterday in more heavy rain cutout again, after couple of minutes restarted.
10 minutes later cut out again just after a set of lights (seem to splutter a couple fo times before dying). On restart now showing EWS error. 5 minutes later started ok and got to work and back home!
First thought was the fuel controller problem so stripped it down under the black cover was a small pool of water and grit, dried that up. fuel controller was a bit furred up from getting wet. remove the controller, blue seal which i think is the replacement one. Inside was dry.
Re assembled using acf-50.
On restart EWS error. took fuel controller apart again to make sure i had reassembled correctly all ok. same problem.
Right lets try the spare key, fires up.
first key EWS error.
spare key EWS error.
.. gives up and goes and has me tea !!
try again first key works
spare key works.
(have removed other keys from the bunch chain lock, door key, and topbox key just in case its something bizzare)
got to work today ok on my main key (just a bit of drizzly rain), but am now starting to lose confidence in the bike in the wet as to getting to my destination.
(Was in France last weekend in heavy rain and no problems at all)
I know its difficult but any suggestions or ideas ? anyone had the same issues?
Thanks ps this is a NOV 2004 bike with 30K used in all weathers
