Dear All,

Need some enlighten on this dilemma.

At the time I own a 1200 GS of 2007, and start thinking in change for the new water cooled model year 2014 already available, to avoid a bit of that fuzz about the problems, not sure they are real problems, but the truth is I’m not feeling comfortable with it.

Also understand that maybe components of the bike are not as good as used to be, but things move on, and not always forward.

When sharing this thoughts with the dealer, he told me why not to go for a GSA 2013, with a discount around 2.500 euros and luggage for free.

Questions

1. Why change, my actual bike works perfectly and when I bought, said to myself it was for life.

2. Would you consider the discount an option, since the bike will be replace in months.

3. Does the DOHC engine on the GSA is a big difference to the one I have now, or a 2013 GSA is much the same as a 2007 GS.

Cheers,

César

Hi,
The Twin Cam 2010 + is a great engine, it will do everything. A smoother motorway bike and an extra 1000 rpm to play with.
The WC is a more sporty option, it would be big fun on Portugal roads.

Oh boy a new bike???

I'd like to keep my bike for life. But first I'd think about the problems I've had and other potential problems with that year of the bike. For instance my '06GS is known to have gearbox, rear hub, ABS brake, and a couple other things - I've fixed most of these but figure there will be more problems to come. So I'd have a '13 model of my bike at the drop of a hat.

Have a think about how many problems you may face keeping your current bike. I fix my own bike so like and know the air cooler well so this would help me decide.

The LCD would be a good option of you love the technically advanced bike.

Do you need more bike than the 'old' air cooled bike? (Get a good warrantee and get a free 6k service when you buy one)

Rambling. Sorry.

It was the problems that brought me at this point.

Recently had ABS troubles, about 1.700 euros to fix it...

Do not want to engage with this friendship with the mechanic

Sorry folks I know its much questions, but really appreciate different points of view

The R1200GS had a significant power increase for the MU model in 2008 and the 2010 Twincam engine has more mid-range power (easier overtaking) and is smoother with a better gearbox in my experience.

If you like your 2007 model, you'll love the 2013 GSA :thumby: Just don't test ride the WC GS first ;)

This is the dilema I went through, although I didn't own a BMW prior to buying a GS LC.

I went in to look at a 90 year GSA and after a test ride intended to do a deal, but the LC kept appearing in the corner of my eye. The GSA appealed as the last version of that bike I knew it would be well sorted.

After a blast on the LC and after realising that I didn't need or use the extra benefits of the Adventure I went for the newer bike.

I made this decision fully understanding that a new model could potentially offer a few teething problems. *touch wood* The bike has been faultless to date and I'm 100% happy with the decision I made.

er...

...who really gives a fuck here???!!! Like most people intimate, a large majority of cyclists ride like arrogent pricks and a Q7-driving footballer...really? How long do we have to think about this???

(and I'm a london cyclist too and hate the majority of the wankers I see riding bikes!!!)
