Is it really worth upgrading from the standard GS can for my 2007 beastie?:drool

what everyone wants from an exhaust upgrade!

More power and more noise?

The power and the noise is minimal. What does make a big difference is less weight from an after market exhaust as the weight is up high on the standard exhaust.

I'm doing this myself. I hear you get a moderate increase in power, noise and more importantly fuel economy. I like the idea of the weight saving too although this bike never seems heavy to me.

As others have said. Don't bother with a can.
However, your bike will perform noticeably better (and a bit louder)
By fitting CAT replacing ‘Y’ headers, e.g. Remus or keihan.

+1 What he said :thumb2

Exhaust Upgrade

Getting rid of the cat makes a 1200 run like it should, unbelievably they are light years apart, smoother, torquier and more economical, in my case 7 miles per gallon, obviously better for the planet!

I think they are £359 at Nippy Normans. The Keihan ones are better value at £288 and they are better quality too.

The Remus headers minimise the effect of the emissions dip in the torque curve making the bike a hell of a lot more rideable. The can will make it sound like it should.

Look out for second hand gear - you should be able to get a full system fairly cheap.

Has anyone dynoed the bike before and after de-catting it, to see what difference it made?

I'm tempted to do this for mine (which is running the Akrapovic Titanium can at the moment), but only if the difference is going to be noticeable.

And, even if people have not had it on a dyno, does it feel much different afterwards?

What is "headers"? :nenau

Is this a duplicate word for downpipes?

I can't find Y headers for sale nor do I know what I'm looking for.

thanks, Tony

It is another word for headers / downpipes / inlet manifold

Y piece is refering to the CAT section at the rear

Y headers includes downpipes and the rear section which will then take the endcan (silencer)

Having de catted headers gives you more low down torque which is very noticeable. You also get a much crisper throttle response because the engine "breathes" better and the bike will be faster through the rev range. We've not dyno'ed the Keihans but we estimate a 5bhp hike in power and all the people who have bought them are really happy with the way the bike is improved:thumb

It's not an R1 lump so does not give it race bike performance but it's one of the best improvements you can do to the GS in my opinion.

Tony, I sell the keihan headers so if you want to call me on 07766554069, I can talk you through the benefits of new headers:thumb

I can't pm you because you haven't subscribed:augie
