I traded my 1250 GS-ADV for a 1250GS-HP with sports suspension. So pretty much the same bike with the same chassis (20 mm longer shocks,0,5 nm stiffer springs,5 mm shorter trail due to different TL arm) but 20 instead of 30 liter tank and plastic Vario bags/topbox instead the BMW aluminum ones.
The reason was the weaving above 125mph with luggage.
So after breaking the new one in I took her down to Mexico where you can ride free without adult supervision...:thumb
Both bike had Akra E-3 exhaust with db-killers removed emitting a beautiful boxer-boom.
Only difference the HP had Conti Trail Attack 3 tires where the ADV had my former favorites Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2.
I love the new Contis which are even quicker steering and more confidence inspiring showing 50 degree max lean on the NAV6 where the pegs will start to scrape.Only draw back slightly less mileage on the rear compared to the Pirelli's but the front will last longer than the Pirelli.
Anyways after an hour after crossing the border I had my answer. The HP also got frisky at speeds above 125mph...I thought I had made a $ 5000 mistake which was what I paid at trade-in but at least I saw 136 mph on the GPS while the ADV saw only 132 mph max with panniers and top box...;)
Mistake because I did not like the fact that I had to stop for gas every 150 miles while the ADV got the a range of 250 miles.
But a few days later the HP showed me her forte. The funnest bike this side of a S1000XR I had ever ridden in the twisties...:thumby: With that strong torquey motor, shaftdrive and T-L it killed the lust for the XR for good !
Very agile and nimble and a little faster due to less bulk and probably 40 lbs less weight than the ADV.Where the XR needed to be revved and shifted the GS just pulled.
I was very happy to have a slightly more manageable and really fun to ride machine with a nearly perfect chassis and engine for the street with the penalty to have to stop more often for fuel.
So it basically comes down to 2 points if GS-HP or GS-ADV;
What do you value more a slightly faster more manageable bike or 100 miles more tank-range and luggage that will bend but not break in case of a mishap far away from home ?!
As both are the best street bikes currently on sale !
For future GS models I like to see the right bag as big as the left one and a 24 liter tank which would be the perfect size as 20 liters is a little small and 30 really only makes sense in remote areas where 35 liters probably would be even better.
And another 20 hp on top and a chassis that can handle the additional power at high speeds without compromising the agility that makes the GS so much fun to ride in first place !
And of course stick to the T-L which is far superior to any fork for fast road-riding...:thumby:
A 17 inch CF wheel option with the right geometry not compromising ground clearance or high speed stability would be great, too !
But as it is the GS is already pretty close to perfection where the old E-4 1200 just felt lacking and sluggish...
ADV has more range and better bags for overlanding the HP is a little sportier and easier to handle - Both are great bikes. You can't go wrong with either one !

I only speak from my own experience with the 2016 R1200GSA and 2019 R1250GSA, having ridden in the order of 38000 miles on both including several weeks on the Autobahns and numerous mountain ranges, I have not experienced weaving at any speeds both solo and pillion always with BMWs Alr luggage.

I wonder if tyre profile or possibly pressures might cause weaving.

That is very interesting what you said as both of my bikes started to get light / weavy at speeds above 125mph/200km/h with bags and top box...It says not to go faster than 112mph/180km/h inside the boxes.
I ran my bikes in max position with tire pressure set on 36 psi front and 42 psi rear...PST2 on the GS-ADV , CTA3 on the GS-HP.
Maybe I'm bigger than you and cause more turbulence...;)
My wife does not ride with me anymore so she is not to blame...:D
The S1000XR is stable all the way to top speed of 155 mph with full luggage...but I still prefer the T-L and slightly quicker steering of the GS-HP...:thumb2

Forgot to mention that I also have the original Hella foglights the ADV comes with right from the factory.
But for some reason mounted below the beak with the original mount from BMW they work much better on the GS than the ADV.Probably due to higher mounted position I would guess.Very clean installation with out any additional wiring that I hate. The stock LED headlights go far and the LED driving lights go wide.Perfect illumination !
Also have the Levers and footpegs made by Gilles Tooling for BMW.Pricey both worth the money as the stock levers feel grainey to me and the stock foot pegs submit vibration and get you foot caught while cornering hard. The Gilles are elevated and touch on the outside sliders. The devil is in the details...;)

I was running Tourance Nexts followed by Metzler Roadtec 01, the 1250 has Anakees but when their gone, I will probably go back to Metzler Roadtec 01 as they were stable with great life. I never go off road so 100% road tyres are what I need.

I should point out there is no realistic opportunity to ride at those speeds in the UK or for that matter most of the EU.

Yes I know about the warning label inside the boxes & topcase not to go faster than 112mph with luggage attached.
And yes Conti and Pirelli are very quick steering tires with a V-shaped front wheel that might decrease high speed stability.Michelins and Bridgestones are probably more stable with their flatter front profiles but thus not as much fun to ride...
Anyways real happy with the GS-HP with sports-suspension and it will real tough to improve on it...:thumby:
Nothing a 24 liter tank,2 same size big bags,1400 cc / 160 hp boxer and 17 inch CF-wheel option wouldn't do...:D

BMW Europe are producing a GS with 17inch wheels but for Europe only .It’s to be called the GS1250M. You might get it in 2021 .

"It says not to go faster than 112mph/180km/h inside the boxes". Theres your answer is it not :nenau :augie.
Nor should you load 71kg of apples into your panniers and topbox either.

I was a tad surprised at that, swapped for a dozen bottles of cider, which my boys enjoyed immensely.

Arsey for a A-T rider you seem pretty well informed...;)
How come BMW patented "M 1300 GS" ?
Sounds like our dream of a 150hp , 17 inch CF wheeled GS straight from the factory is finally coming true...:thumby:
I surely hope !
Until then the GS-HP will do...:D
Best bike I had since I started riding in 1986 and believe me I had a lot of bikes...
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year !

Arsey , Definitely MERRY CHRISTMAS !
None of the "happy holidays" B.S. here Let the joos, muslims and atheists go home where they can live out THEIR customs and be happy than destroying ours...:thumb2
Anyways have you upgraded to the new A-T yet ?
The one with tubeless wheels, finally, even if the cheaper version still runs tubes...
