Can anyone (preferably someone that has done it) tell me if I can put a set of 07 Adventure wheels onto a 2013 Adventure? Thinking about having a knobbly set of wheels and a road set.
Thanks in advance

AFAIK Wheels are wheels for the 1200 models (by 2013 Adventure I presume you mean air cooled?).

The rear wheel bolts are longer on spoked wheels than the ones for cast alloy wheels, be sure to use the right ones or risk the wheels coming off. Obviously for the front you also need disks, wheel bearings with seals and an ABS sensor ring.

If you have tyre pressure sensors, you can fit a second set and have the bike learn them via a GS911 or main dealers computer.

Hmm well that's what I thought, but somebody said they thought they were different yesterday.
Anyone else have thoughts on the matter?

Get on the MaxBMW site via google and check the wheel part numbers for the years you are considering using their online fiche. If they match, jobs a good 'un.

Edit: Just checked myself, 2007 and 2013 wheel part numbers are the same:

36 31 7 710 866 SPOKE WHEEL, BLACK FRONT - 19" RDC
36 31 7 710 861 SPOKE WHEEL, BLACK, REAR - 17" RDC

Cool looking good then, just thought though I think the brake discs are different. Will have to look up some parts places to see.

I have both types on my 2008 Adventure. They are a straight swap and even weigh virtually the same.

My alloys are from an older GS complete with brake discs and pressure sensors. They just dropped straight on.
I believe both types of GS/A wheel fit all marks of Hexhead GS and GSA.

You will need the correct wheel bolts for the back wheel. I can't remember which has which length of bolt.
My alloys have been powder coated gloss black and I think really suit the GSA. The old paint was chipped allowing corrosion to creep under the paint. So far the powder is holding up well.

I must get around to paint stripping the hubs on my wires and get them repainted.

Some other hexhead wheels will fit giving a 17" at both ends and faster steering. But some wider rear wheels will be off centre.
Careful searching needed.

Google seems to be the best way to find stuff on this site. Prefix the google search string with "UKGSer".

Does anyone know if there front axel is different between the GS and Adventure? Im about to change to spoked wheels on my 09 GS and am aware of the rear bolts but was wondering if the front axel is the same? Cheers for the help and sorry to jump in on the thread :beerjug:

Paul b, how did you prep and what paint did you use ? I've put spoked on my gs but want to paint my original alloy wheels black.
Yours look great. Gloss black ?

I run a garage and got one of the painters to do them for me .... I will find out what they did it with etc. I would have probably powder coated them if I didn't have the facilities at work... !!

They look fab in gloss black. The standard paint is VERY tough but as long as there is no corrosion tracking under the paint, just get them lightly grit blasted, etch prime and paint in the normal way.

Cost wise there may be little difference. I paid £14 per wheel for chemical stripping (Envirostrip Tamworth) and then £25 per wheel for industrial standard powder coat (CJ Ward in Burton on Trent). They look great but really posh powder or paint with a smoother finish could be double that.

Sorry its grubby but I dont have a just washed pic on photobucket with these wheels. :(

The bike has only done 2,800 miles so the wheels were almost as new ... Previous owner only did about 1200 miles in 2 years !

I rattle can sprayed my wheels on 1st GS they do look awesome in black see here :thumb2

Get them lightly grit blasted to provide a key. Prime with a self-etch primer (I got mine from Opie Oils) and paint over in the normal way.

I used my original front axle, but the alloys came to me complete with discs so I don't know if they are the same as used on the wires.

Even if its not necessary to strip the paint and powder coat it might still be less costly.

Got to say it looks really good - but how well does the rattle can finish stand up to a year or two of road use (and tyre changes) though?

- Wheels from both GS & GSA variants will fit all years 2004 to 2013 (alloy wheel design changed in 2008 but all are interchangeable);
- GSA (spoked) rear wheels need longer mounting bolts than GS (alloy) rear wheels;
- Front discs and disc mounting bolts changed in 2008, you need the correct discs/bolts for your age of bike but they can be mounted on any front wheels, spoked or alloy;
- Wheels fitted with tire pressure sensors (TPS) are the same as wheels without;
- Front axles are the same for all years and variants (2004 - 2013).

Hope this helps.
