does anyone suffer the dreaded numb bum , i had a tiger 955 before i got 1200gs done long distances no problem. seem to get arse ache after about 60 miles on gs, we are planning trip to route napoleon next summer just wondered if any of you guys have fitted an after market seat, and which one is best!!
thanks brian

Is your bike new? I've found mine has improved loads over time, not sure if it's the foam that's broken in or my arse but 500 miles days have been covered with utmost 'bum comfort' so I'm sticking with the standard seat.

Hi Brian, I use a AIRHAWK on long rides, had my GS a year now & still get a numb bum without it.

I think the 1200GS seat is bloody fantastic. Done a few 500 mile days without problems.

.....go sit yourself on a 600cc sportsbike, then you'll know the meaning of an uncomfortable seat!!:)

I found the seat a little unforgiving, so bought a memory foam saddle cover from the local horse tack shop the day before heading over to the Alps in May. It fits on with easily-adustable straps, looks absolutely ridiculous. However, it made a big difference, and 500-mile days were no problem in the arse department. Cost £55.00

I wouldn't recommend that anyone follows this route unless absolutely necessary because of the weird looks, but if you can get a memory foam cover designed for bike saddles rather than horse saddles, then I WOULD recommend it.

Not much help, really, am I?

Robin.

No problems with the seat. Done over 600 miles in a day 2 up and still managed to walk to the seafront for a beer at the end of it :beerjug:

not wishing to sound rude but my sofa would be a bit narrow for your wife

Very nice pics! Specially wheelies. Post more anytime. Mine has done 13000Km's and the seat is still a bastard and me arse is not getting tougher either. :o

Try the Touratech sports seat and you'll find you can ride all day without any numbness. It's thinner and narrower but with better padding than the BMW one. This means you can move around more and it doesn't push you forward like the standard one does. Also being one piece it looks better as well.Prior to this i used the Airhawk which is incredibly comfy but looks a bit crap and as you have to strap it on it makes removing the seat a pain in the ar*e which is sort of where we came in.

My GS was a German import, and I was checking part numbers to see what seat it actually came with.

Looking at Max BMW microfiches, my seat part number of 52 53 7 667 720 isn't even listed.

Perhaps some of the parts for the US market are different?

Confused of Solihull.

I agree - same problem. My old 1150GS was good for a few hundred miles. Ass ache on the 1200 from around 100 miles. I went with an Airhawk - does the job nicely and let's face it, no-one can see when my ass is sat on it! VFM compared to some of the custom seat alternatives and you can take it with you too.

also had tiger before, seat v comfy. didnt get on with the gs seat until i raised the front, much more comfortable now.
