1200 gsa on Tenerife

I have booked a week away from 24th December in Puerto re la Cruz northern Tenerife,
I'm going on my own and will have Christmas eve/day/boxing day in the hotel 4* all inc,
I have booked a 1200 GSA for 4 days from the 27th (yeah I know a small island etc but I couldn't resist paying a few quid more for a larger bike than I really need)
My questions are,
The hire place is way down on the south of the island and I may need to get there to pick up and drop the bike back off, does anyone know from experience what the buses might be like, I think a cab for the 50 odd miles might be e bit expensive.
(Though I am going to find out if they can drop the bike at my hotel)
What about riding on the island, I'm expecting snow on the volcano but hoping it won't be as low as the roads, looking on Google maps it looks like there may be some cracking roads inland and I just wondered if anyone has been and have any recommendations,

I had planned on going to gran canaria, but when I came to book yesterday there was very little available so all of the advance planning I made for going there went out of the window

I'm taking my own twatsuit and gear, I don't like the idea of riding in shorts and flip flops,
so on a bus this might be a bit of a pita as well.

Any advice or piss taking greatly received.

We went there in February a few years ago and didn't see snow on the top. Hired a 250 scooter and had a ball on the mountain roads. Bus network seemed pretty good though we never used them. If it were me I'd try and get them to deliver to the hotel even if that incurs a surcharge. Have fun

The buses are fine.As for the mountain,the cloud can indeed get down to road level which is a bit scary with sudden zero visibilty as well as very wet! Have a great time!

Was there a couple of weeks ago, supposed to be 24 degrees, was 28-30. Saw lots of GS's, had the family so hired a car.

The roads in the Teide national park are superb, actually, the roads everywhere apart from the motorway were really good.

You haven't outlined where on the south of the island you need to get to. Therefore I've used Playa De Las Americas as an example.

Buses are OK but it's almost a day out in its self for your route. That is providing your travelling to Playa De Las Americas.
Then you will more than likely need a taxi when you get off the bus to the hire company.
This little adventure, coupled with carrying all your gear (unless your desire is to sit on the bus wearing your twat suit) would be a considerable chore.

Do your self a favour and hire a bike local to your hotel, after all your on holiday.

IMHO
As you've inferred a GSA could be a tad overkill for whats needed on the island. There's great roads up on the mountain so save the
cost difference of hiring a GSA in the south and get youself a middleweight in the north.
It would make for just as much fun on the mountain roads and after all its only for days out.
I noticed last year a company was hiring out GS650's and Vstrom's in the south so I'm sure your hire Co will have similar bikes.

BTW, I will be there from Tuesday in the south, so if I see a chap ride past the bar I'm in twat suited up, I will raise a glass to Gazza.

A Burgman is my weapon of choice whilst over there. Lots of room for vino under the seat.

they seemed to be the best I could find on the island, way down south and further round than las Americas, when I searched I didn't find a hire company in the north though I'm sure someone else will now, maybe I should have asked here first
I'm sure i'll work something out in the 3 days before I need to pick up the bike,
I should get the booking confirmation from the hire company today so will email them for options.

Me? I'd hire a scooter or small bike from somewhere local, take my helmet on the flight as handluggage and wear jeans.... And do my best not to fall off.

Check your holiday travel insurance (you have bought some, haven't you) in case of two-wheeled restrictions.

Hello I lived there for a couple of years both in the south and north. I'd get the bus if you can but the 27th is a Sunday of corse and even a direct route will take 1 1/2 to 2 hours on motorway, over the top of teide will be double. As suggested I'd consider a smaller local bike if I were you. all of the roads are except the motorway are slow and more fun on something else . Scooters are good fun but can be dangerous with boiled brake fluid going downhill 2 up in 35c for an hour


A 250cc bike would be ideal . I had an f650 , dominator 650 and a vfr 750 while I was there but enjoyed the ease of a 250 majesty scooter. They just make sense . Plus you don't need to take a twat suit . Each to their own and all that but that would be total overkill for me. Dragging jeans if you must but a twat suit would get me stressed out . The roads aren't fast and it nice to stop often ?

We hired from them 2 years ago, they where very good and the bikes where like new.
I had a KTM 690 and had a fantastic time.
Small and light is all you need.
The roads are in very good condition with very little traffic when we were there in November.

I have sent them a message asking if they can deliver to the hotel if not will I be able to cancel the booking, just waiting for a reply,
I may change to an f800 gs if ones available and they can deliver.
being as I'm 6'4" and 16 1/2 stone I didn't want too small a bike.

Puerto de la cruz is a nice place...stayed in the Bahia Pricipe San Felipe hotel a couple of years back

If you do, don't bother with anything big if you're thinking of doing the mountain roads. I was there in February, had a great day out on a Kymco 300 but I swear they're the twistiest roads I've ever seen and therefore very slow going https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARwaVM0YO4M
