1200 in the Picos...

Excellent Pics Dave...
I hadn't seen them before either. How did you all sort out the trails up there?? Are there maps available with the trails on as I would love to go back and do a few.

There is a local map..........available in Potes (I have name if you want it) and it's based on walking tours.
It's not as good as our OS maps......
There are 2 ways up to Funte De (by bike or walking)..........one from Sotres/Cabrales end (where you were) and one halfway up the Tarmac road to the chairlift base (from Potes)

that is very impressive, I do not get that out of my 1150gs with 23 litres when loaded with pillion, luggage, so the 1200 must be very frugal? 50 mpg at least.

Glad You Loved The Picos!!
Hi Andy,
Glad to here you had a good time, photo's are great. Joyce and I were there last year in July. We stayed in the smaller hotel at the bottom of the Fuente De cable-car - not the Parador, the smaller one. The picos area is absolutely stunning isn't it? and although Fuente De is adead-end we never got fed up of the road between there and Potes - it's a stunner on a GS isn't it?
I can vouch for the fact that Corsican Dave's taken his GS to the top station of th cable-car - I've seen the pictures of it on the balcony!! - but there again Dave's bike now looks like it's been up there!, which is a bit risky with a new 1200??.
The picture of you and your mate Dave in the snow at the top of th cable-car brought back memories - Joyce and I walked up through the the mountains behind you to the Refuge Veronica I think it was - absolutely stunning scenery.
Glad your enjoying the new bike - even if it's not an 1150!!

Maps of Picos
Back again Andy,
Glad to see Dave got his Picos pics on the forum while I was typing last reply, great aren't they?
When Joyce and I went there last year I borrowed a set (of two) of maps of the Picos National Park from Dave. these maps are very detailed and cover anything a hiker or GS'er is likely to need. You can easily buy them in the like of Potes but are hard to find elsewhere however you can get them from a UK company
I've used a lot for detailed maps of obscure places!
They supply the set I borrowed from Dave of two maps in a storage folder for £9 odds - not bad and they make great bed-time reading - looking at the places you've been last time or where you fancy next time?
