M'off in the morning ... Spain and Portugal

When having a day off the sun is always over the yard arm
Although this place ( Marvão) is clearly a tourist destination as plenty of English bods keep turning up and 3 beers cost me almost 10 europoundsIMG_2625.jpeg

Nice one Rick
Seems like a well oiled trip… unlike another recent escapade I won’t mention 😂

Quick update

It is fucking hot !!!!

Today we headed a bit north to Tabua taking in one of the reasons we come down here the Pampilhosa de sierra road from or to gois
And an old mate live near here
The temp was just just nudging 42 degrees as we arrived at the hotel and again thank fuck for the cooling vest as without it it would be dangerous

Oh nearly forgot dinner last night in marvao was a steak or as it turned out 2 fillet steaks and some crisps but for 23 europunds one can’t complain

This hotel looks na hotel Tabua is pretty decent and cheap with a pool which is bliss although perhaps I would have been wise to take my wallet out of my pocket before a dip

Today’s update
This hotel in Tabua is fabulous not to mention cheap 3 nights b&b for 2 of us sharing 230 europounds
The restaurant whilst not cheap for Portugal is superb I had piglet croquettes and medallions of beef ( 3 fillet steaks as it happened) all weee delicious as was the apple tart

This morning we were out at 0630 to meet our old mate and do his “lap” before it got too hot we did the lap about 160 miles but it got very hot 42 deg again !!!

I am now drinking heat medicine and pondering a dip in the pool

No Tofus have been harmed in the making of this trip !

Slummed it last night and went out for pizza with friends who live nearby

Today I have wussed out as riding in 40 deg + heat stops motorcycling being fun - when there is no choice due to moving on is one thing but today I choose not to be roasted alive

You got that right, plus it is dangerous in many ways.
Thankfully the normal weather returns on Weds. and the weekend is forecast for high 20`s, so some respite from the last two or three weeks, which I have to say is most welcome, I like the heat, but once it is above body temp. It can be challenging.

I managed to waterboard myself last night
My light merino t shirt was sweat soaked so I went in the shower with it as you do
Once washed and rinsed I tried to take it off but it got stuck around my face with the shower beating down
🤣

Update
It is still fucking hot as the heat dome thing seems to be moving north with us
Left Tabua at 0830 at 16degrees and in cloud within the hour it was 30 and by lunch it was 37-39 but 42 on the Douro valley and remained that way all the way to our air conditioned parador in Puebla de sanabria

A very tough 200 miles but on brilliant roads but they make it hard work

Last cafe in Portugal
With me looking proper fucked which a
I was

Heat medicine required and the worlds greatest touring bike or the most inappropriate depending on view point

To start finishing this off

Last night in Spain was once again at the Parador at Fuente De.

Last noon over to Puentanansa and then on to the ferry after the EES thing which again was pretty simple but would have been even better if the machines all worked !

Usual ferry crossing with a meal in the posh restaurant which is still good value considering I try to eat my own bodyweight in smoked salmon and have 84 puddings.

Arrival in Plymouth and they slowed down the disembarkation process because of the heat ! so were called very late to the bike deck - Dantes descent into hell - but they didn't keep us hanging around in there for a change and it was straight off - even the passport bods were efficient and speedy.

Now the horrendous bit
The M5 was like a car park and it was 37º so we called off and headed across country through Glastonbury etc to the cotswolds and the Fosse way. this may or may not have been a mistake but it added time and was still hot but IMO safer than filtering for long stretches.

9 and half hours to get home and totally broken !!

Any way a brilliant trip on some fantastic roads

I will post up my routes and any pics I have missed when I have become less broken
