Just been up to a friends and dissapointed to say my ideas are drying up.

Initially presumed a failed coil due to rough running on idle and acceleration (similar to my experieces with a 1150), then my mate emptied the fuel tank and since then the bike will not start again.

So I popped up to visit him and my mind pointed towards a fuel pump problem as so well advertised on here. Possibly not that....

Every now and again it fires with no revs whilst we are attempting to start it, any throttle stop even this from happening. There is some light smoke that would suggest a cat full of fuel.

Taking out the spark plugs whilst checking the coils revealed soaked plugs!!!

Other thread on here pointed towards blocked open injectors, TPS or flywheel/cam sensor.

We popped out injectors and rightly enough they are injecting at what looks like a equal and normal amount.

Any advice on what its likely to be is much appreciated.

It would go the to garage except for the small problem of getting it there. :nenau We need to get it going, at least badly to get it to the garage.

Does the fuel pump whir briefly when making the ignition? If not, the FPC is blown. To prove this, make up a temporary lead to put 12 volts directly onto the fuel pump (bypassing the FPC) and see if it runs. Search this forum for the details.

Sounds like you've already diagnosed it is unburnt fuel, you say the injectors are working. I doubt it is compression related, therefore it sounds likely that it is an ignition fault preventing the engine from running.

Do you have a healthy spark with dry plugs fitted ?

Can you 'borrow' parts from a good bike to aid your diagnosis eg coils, plugs etc.

Your best bet would be to get hold of a GS-911 tool and do a diagnostic test of the bikes controllers to look for faults. Look on the GS-911 website for a youtube video of what the tool can do. It might take you straight to the fault?

If still under warranty, I would get the bike recovered to a dealer and let them fix it.

Keep us posted.

It is sparking, at least intermittantly, every now and again it fires but doesnt catch.

Is there any reason not to pop out a plug and ground it to the engine to see if its sparking? Wont bugger up the canbus or anything else?

Have you reset the TPS by turning the throttle (twice) over it's full range with the ingnition on? Tells you how to do this in the manual after the battery has been disconnected.

I don't see why not? The CANBUS is only a data cable to allow the four ECU's on the bike to exchange data. The electronic ignition and injection control is by an ECU, same as most cars and bikes.

The spark 'grounds' through the engine cases when the plugs are threaded into place anyway.

Tried the tps reset but he hasn't had the battery off. Will the tp only reset if you have cut the power of does it config each time? If not then what I didn't eouldvhave done anything.

If you have no spark I strongly suspect the Hall sensor (fitted on the front of the engine casing beneath the alternator belt cover). Its a simple pick-up which senses engine position and tells the ecu when to trigger the spark. If it fails, you won't get a spark.

If the TPS is faulty, it could be injecting full fuel and thus the high air/fuel mixture is flooding/fouling the spark plugs leading to the symptoms you describe.

The only way to know for sure is with diagnostic equipment or else a swap-out and test with spare parts.

Hi den, I found out tonight what was wrong with blackhornets gs and have to share it on here! HE HAD FILLED IT WITH DIESEL!!!!!:)

Its even worse, he had to have it recovered to Rainbow and decided that since it was going to be off the road for a while he would use the fuel in his other bike so he poured most of it out into his honda! Rainbow said they found traces of diesel which is when it twigged:)
