1200 service intervals........ read the manual again.

My bike's in warranty and I've been doing all sorts of fiddling with it :) As long as you are competent it won't cause a problem with the warranty.

Changing the oil is pretty easy, I don't have any pics but here's a quick description:

1 - Warm up the engine by going for a little ride.

2 - Remove sump guard and put a container under the bike to catch the oil and undo the oil drain plug. It's a hex key type bolt on the bottom of the sump.

3 - while the oil is draining out, remove the oil filter. You'll probably need a special tool to do this - I used a modified (with an angle grinder) Halfords one.

4 - Clean up the various mating surfaces.

5 - Fill new oil filter with clean oil, and smear a small amount of oil onto the rubber seal.

6 - Fit new oil filter to the bike, tightening to 12Nm.

7 - Refit drain plug (preferably with new washer), tightening to 32Nm.

8 - Pour clean oil into filler hole, capacity is 3950ml but I just put in a whole 4 litre container.

9 - Replace filler cap.

10 - Start engine. If the oil warning light doesn't go out, stop it immediately. With engine running, check under the bike for leaks.

11 - Assuming there are no leaks, replace the sump guard.
