Service intervals etc.

So after convincing myself I didn't need to do anything, today I went for a 40 mile ride and dumped the oil and filter.
It was, of course, virtually new after about 1800 miles, but at least I now know what's in there.

The answer, should anyone be interested, is Valvoline Synpower 10w-50, which is probably OTT but I'm like that.

Opened the gearbox filler and wiped the plug... looks like new, but then I suppose it would.

I've made a promise to myself to do the gearbox and rear drive each time the rear tyre gets replaced.
 
Lots tend to do engine and FD together given FD propensity to fail, and gearbox as per schedule which I think is 12k/2 yrs?
 
That's probably pretty much how it will work out given around one rear tyre and one oil change per year.
It had a new driveshaft under warranty about 3000 miles ago. No idea why, but hopefully all checked out at the time and rear oil has been changed again (or at least charged for!) since.
Tyres are currently excellent condition Anakee 2, but with 2013 date stamps. While they are fine and have given me no reason to worry, I'll swap them out for some pure road tyres (I will NOT be riding this off road!) in the spring and do all transmission oils at the same time.
 
Bit of an aside, but popped out for an hour on the bike post oil change last night and am now very happy I did it. Riding it, of course, not the slightest bit of difference, but on start up from cold the motor used to rattle for a couple of cycles until the oil got round and now the rattle seems to have gone and it sounds perfect from the start.

Or maybe it was just on the main stand when I changed it and the right cylinder didn't drain back into the sump. ;) Time will tell...
 
Just do all the oils every 6,000 miles, not much extra work or cost.

Like I said, that's pretty much how it will work out. Can't remember the last time I got more than 5500 miles out of a rear tyre. Or did more than 6000 miles in a year, to be honest.
