1200GS Adventure - Where do you put your tax disc?

The offence is still ' FAIL TO DISPLAY a current vehicle excise licence ' (in the prescribed manner) so it's still a non endorseable ticket offence if it is in your pocket or attached to your fridge door by a magnet or rolled up somewhere and not visible.

So when you come back to your parked bike and find a NEFPT stuck on it with offence code D13 written on it you'll know what is for and can't whinge about the fine.

And before anyone says that it can be checked by the relevant bodies and it will show on the computer as being taxed so a ticket shouldn't be issued , if the vehicle is taxed online and for 6 months it will be recorded on the readily available databases as having no current vehicle excise licence.

A good idea though is to laminate the VEL and then put it the holder. If it is nicked no -one can change the details and it is waterproof and will not fade.

It is still a common one of people buying s/hand bikes and cars privately and only finding out when stopped that it is a nicked/altered VEL on it

You can, but in over a decade of carrying it in my wallet I have never even been warned, let alone reported for it. Its even less likely now with ANPR.

That's 'cos you dont live in London. Have had tickets for not displaying on a few occasions from jobsworth coppers. You will find that it is in many pay and display car park t's and c's that you must be displaying a valid tax disc, so you can be ticketed even if you have paid. These days, any excuse to extract some £££ from you. It costs nothing to display....

But IMHO with ANPR the actual tax disc is irrelevant now and the law needs to be changed so there is no need to display. But that won't happen for a long time as it costs money and there are more pressing laws to change / bring in.

Quite probably.
By choice.
It costs nothing to display....
Its cost ME nothing to not display.
Its cost ME £25 (?) every time I've had a tax disc go walkies from my bike (three times, twice in that there London;)).
Hence on the balance of things, FOR ME, it works out at least £75 cheaper to not display.

Thanks. :)

In answer to COLUMBUS the info regarding D**A database /online renewals and 6 month tax discs is correct.

I'm sorry ...

In answer to COLUMBUS the info regarding D**A database /online renewals and 6 month tax discs is correct.

... but saying the same thing twice doesn't make it true :blast

I checked today and it says "details not available". That is if we are checking the same database

I may be getting the wrong end of the stick here, but "Details not available" does NOT mean it's untaxed; it means the VEL database details are just that, unavailable.

Different police forces, & different users within those forces, have access to different levels of data via the PNC.

I have full authorised access to all the relevant databases ( I'm not talking about the DVLA website) the information is correct .

This is where the dealer fitted mine:

And in reply to oblertone, the requirement for the disc to be mounted "forward and to the left of the driver" changed a few years ago. The requirement now is that it be displayed so that the particulars thereon are visible from the nearside (so having the disc rolled up in one of those natty little cylindrical holders is not really adequate).

Why not adequate? In front of rider, on nearside, rolled up, easily read by rotating, waterproof, protected...:nenau

Ah - I wasn't aware they could be rotated. The one I had on my bike several years ago was fixed. Strictly speaking though, all the particulars should be readable from the kerbside without the Jobsworth needing to touch the vehicle.
