With all due respect, keep telling yourself that

I didn't make it up honest:hide. Within several weeks of first joining the Met bike fleet five went bang.

We were then instructed not to let them idle whilst on the sidestand and only use super unleaded.

Hello BillWright, I wonder how long ago you joined the Met bike fleet, and what has been their experience since the sidestands were melted down and fuel specification upped? As indicated in my post, the sidestand advice would not have affected my everyday practice and I therefore wonder if this was an early 'guess' by bmbubbleboob.

cheers

Am I being daft

I will never leave mine idling on its side stand again..... i know its off thread but ive been in the met an awful long time and I have never seen a cheese eater on a GS absolutely ever. Maybe they all blew up.....:topic

why would it go on the side stand????the oils pumped, not splashed around????

My HP2 did the same at 9k. Huge damage.

Until the legals are sorted I'm posting **** all on here but by all means call me for the info.

There is a solution!

yes buy 4 month old 650 v strom ....better than the 1000[got both ] put new rear shock and fork springs on ....keep the 7500 quid i n yer back pocket ...
then laugh yerself to sleep
9k is six months motoring to me ... the gs is not up to it ...not viable
...far to many avoidable faults
hats off to the faithful ...but its the emporers clothes
it really isnt that fast ..or that good
....ownership out of warranty is a joke
just run the little strom with full ohlins fitted with 35 other bike s around the pyranees and
back ..everone was impressed by it ...in cluding the two gs owners who did not complete the trip [ewsfailure ] [ fual pump ] bmw want shooting between the eyes two more holidays ruined and totally avoidable

its the original graff spee
its a storming little bike ...for no money 1 sec down on quarter mile ....better in corners [not a misprint ] 280 mile tank range totally reliable
feed halfords oil and forget it no worries no dealers great bike
back to a gs u must be joking

bitter ...yes joking ....no

if they can get the 800s to be reliable ...already not looking good the 1200 will be extinct
the penny is dropping people are not confident with older gses and indeed some brand new ones ....

Interesting comments about the Wee Strom , I test rode one and was impressed overall [ not sure how comfy the seat would be on a long run , but that may just be me - and I'm a lightweight so the screen may need altering ] - it seems they are robust and frugal .
No bike at the moment , but the Wee will be a serious contender for my next set of wheels when the time comes .
What sort of mpg are you getting ?

its ok. I'll counter it.

Even though my HP2 broke. Its getting fixed. Its just a metter of dealing with it properly.

My new MegaMoto cost more, but it is a work of art and an absolute monster to ride. It looks beautiful too.

I would not have a V Strom in a lucky bag. As for it being a great little bike that costs no money. Its a piece of shit. Thats why it costs nil!

if you have ever seen a great fil called "Glengarry Glenross" from the 80's it has a wonderful line in it when Baldwin is explaining to a poor performing salesman what constitutes success and value.

"You see this watch?"

"uh huh"

"this watch cost more than your car. I came here in a $50000 BMW, you came here in a Hyundai"

No matter how many time my bike breaks, and they all do, I'd rather be in this position.

Oh. And my watch? It cost more than my bike!:beerjug:

You would have more credibility if you could counter his argument

You would have more credibility if you checked Minkyheads previous posts. Then you would see he posts the same old tedious stuff time after time after time.

yawn
if everthing was 100% reliable 50% of the planet would be out of a job the rest would be growing food.:nenau
If Vstroms are so wonderfull why are they not top of the monthly sales list?:blast
If you dont like GS's why bother to come on here:confused:

Is it one of those ones from Japan, you know with a calculator, stop watch, light and other stuff?

makes me wonder how bad the vstrom forum must be?

perhaps it's full of GS owners telling them how shit their bikes are over and over again? not me though. i don't really give a rat's arse what they're like, i just don't want one.

Same with Varados/ Ktms 990 / Tenere's et/al if I wanted one of these I'd be riding it.

seems a well thought out and balanced comment
...of course coming from a guy who has owned and ridden both bikes

form over function .....pretty much sums it up
yes i was beaten up badly by my two 1200 gses .....totally gutted
i really did like the bike ...no denying
the fact that they get taken away and fixed ...means very little to me .....i use my bikes every day for work and for all my holidays so a broken bike to me is not a inconviniance ....its a disaster

yes its cheeky posting on here about a vstrom .....:topic
but i bought the little bike to work on to save petrol .....[wanted to keep me watch  ]
save the suspension it was a great little bike ....so much so when it came to riding on me days off the litre was left idle and the 650 ridden

i became that smitten i spent 650 qud on full ohlins update and properly set up by kais performance ..... add a pinch of road rubber
there it is a great bike ....just ridden 1037 mile in one day back from spain it even pulls a larger front sprocket tours all day steady 80 to 100
i ride it because i really enjoy it .....not cos im skint ......
i can afford pretty much any bike i want ...cos i dont waste it on meaningless trinkets
but i cant figure what to get when i chop the 1000dl in

i understand that u need the badge ...i understand that u like /love your bike ...i sympathise with whats happened

but you have no idea how good that little bike is soooooo
why not peel off a few grand in spare change and give it a try ..then if you dont agrree
beat it with a hammer and set fire to it ...nothing to u after all

you may be able to impress others with all your money :mmmm

the guy down the road has a new porshe carrerra .......in bannana yellow :augie

but u cant buy my point of view

your argument  really says it all
people will make there own mind up
...unless you buy them off beforehand .......

ps ...i just use the clock on the bike to tell the time ,:D
you will find find it easyier when riding than your watch
.
.. you will find helps throttle control too ...try it :D:rolleyes:

as a 2nd bike or a choice between a used gs it makes a very viable option a lot of fun ...very very capable

heres the link for kais suspension ...

....no doubt you will already know know that they are shite micky mouse outfit that are ****in clueless and not worth visiting so ill save you the trouble and tell everyone now :augie:tears

...but neverthe less here it is

http://www.kais-performance.co.uk/

print this off ....pin it to your dart board ....

this link is for a ingenius device for altering the windscreen i use a 65 quid tall givi with this bracket and it is outstanding massivle effective

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0168zh-yWXM

the front suspension is undersprung afork spring upgrade [not progreesive ]is a probable must standard is 75 nmtrs mine is now 100nmtrs [fat barstard i know ]

bin the trailwings upgrade suspension .... rears not too bad and its a cracker in the corners ...sv engine is pleanty fun

I'm surprised some people seem to think it's almost an acceptable thing that these engines let go.
I was doing maybe 80 mph on a straight road, but oil went all over teh rear tyre and brakes, the rear wheel locked until i clutched-in.

If i'd been on a bend then the end result may well have been very serious. What's acceptable about that?

Hi I had an engine replacement on my 54 plate 1200 gs
11 months out of warranty for a similar problem FREE OF CHARGE
