Credit where credit is due

Well, it looks like a pretty reasonable result!

Bahnstormers (a big thankyou to Jody and the guys there) put in a report at the begining of last week and I heard on Saturday that BMW are offering to cover all parts and 80% of labour. Part of me wonders why only 80% but given the pretty immediate, no-nonsense response it would be churlish to do anything other than acknowledge that BMW have done good. It has certainly restored my faith and confidence in their attitude to the customer post-sale. Of course I hope confidence in the bike will be equally well founded when I do my Northern tour later in the year. I'll let you know.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experiences and the advice you gave. It's good to know you're not alone - even when you're waiting for the recovery vehicle...

Interesting!!!

I'm just going through a similar process. 05 plate GS with 27k on the clock blew up just over 3 weeks ago. Fairly catastrophic valve failure on the right hand cylinder.

Rainbow's service has been good (as always) although I did have to wait a bit for a diagnosis because they're short staffed. BMW's initial offer was 50% of parts, no labour. Rainbow put a full report in and that has now been improved to 100% parts, no labour.

I didn't think that was too bad until I saw 'Charlie's' post. To date I've left it entirely in Rainbow's hands. Should I 'call it a draw' or contact customer service myself

Must emphasise I can't fault Rainbow at all. Steve and his team have been extremely helpful despite being under quite severe staffing pressures.

I'm told the advantage of making a contribution(goodwill) is that it gets you a 2 year warranty on the replaced parts.

Looking on the bright side I've had the opportunity to test ride both the 08 1200GS and the F800GS. The 800 is a revelation.

My understanding is that if you pay for the parts you benefit from a 12-month warranty. That's why I wanted to pay for parts for my recent leaking gearbox seals. Not sure if the same would apply if you've only paid for the labour and the parts were at fault?

It's probably worth checking with the dealer...

I would seek clarification via BMW UK Customer Service to have a direct written record. It would make things easier in the future if any issues emerged or it was a factor during a sale.

I would be interested to see if there is a standard BMW UK response or if they treat this as a bargaining factor.

If you contribute to the cost of the repair, regardless of how your contribution may be described, then you are entitled to warranty cover on said repair. BMW's warranty is 2 years.

cheers.

Update on the R1200s

Got the bike back at the end of last week.
It's had basically a complete engine. rear tyre, rear pads etc

F.O.C
Plus asd a good will gesture they are extending the bike's warranty an extra year and paying for the first service

Took numerous calls and emails to get it sorted in teh end but I think thats a fair result

I'd say it wasn't just fair, it was generous. Well done BMW.:clap
