On BMW R1200 GS motorcycles, water can leak into the fuel pump controller causing it to fail, leaving you stranded. Using the accessory socket and this cable, you bypass the failed controller and get back on the road. Features 16 gauge wire and soldered joints. If you ride in remote areas, this cable could save your life.

I'm fabricating a bypass cable of various sizes for you to purchase.
Shipping internationally from California.

Please show me how much interest there is so that I can order parts to supply the demand.

Thanks!

Very soon someone is going to tell you that you need to be a site sponsor so that you can advertise on this site:rob

Looks like a worthwhile product, but I carry a spare controller, so have no need.

Wish you the best with this product though.:D

A comment on powering the work around.

I see that it is powered via a standard BuMW plug.

When I tried this option, run from the aux power socket on the beak (which seemed convenient, given the pump's position on the bike) it tripped the Canbus each time.

I can only assume the pump draws more than 5 amps (the Canbus limit) on start up.

Powering direct from the battery (using the fuse as a switch) - or via a relay - would seem to be the only option. Does your lead have a fuse, just before someone whacks it straight onto the battery.

PS Cough up for site sponsorship. ;)

If you can get the plug for the fuel pump, why not get the socket for the cable that plugs into the fuel pump controller, save problems with the canbus?

hi burnszilla as per wapping, has this fix been tried? if it is actually proven i would take one. its the kinda thing i would not want tae be a guinea for:):beerjug:

+1....if you could do this I'd have one, but don't really want one that plugs into the aux socket....:thumb2

as far as the uk goes, by the time i've bought the cable, added shipping, customs duties etc. for a few quid more i could just buy a spare fuel pump controller :nenau

I was fortunate as my FPC gave up the ghost next to a street market in Chefchaouen and the very first stall I came to had a knife, wire and insulating tape so I was able to get back on the road for about 30p.

That was my first plan. The part that matches the fuel pump controller could not be found. The other option is to Posi-tap into the controller power source.

Fuel pump controller here sells for $131 USD. I am marking the customs form "Gift" and $5 value, which I believe should void any custom charges. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What sort of cost are we looking at then for one without a BMW din plug on the other end, ?:)

i thought the FPC was circa £45 here, after it mysteriously halved in price. the "gift" thing might work, but is not 100% as i found out.

your cable looks like a very good deal if you live in the states though.

$19.95 + $6.89 postage, if I read the website correctly which is ~£20. I *think* ~60cm of wire should get the thing back to the battery - or fuse panel, in my case.

Unless anyone's got the Lat and Long of the skip that BMW put the duff fuel pumps in???

cheers..:thumb2

I was thinking more along the lines of some scotchlock connectors and using the OE feed to the FPC.....that way it still shuts down (ie a slightly more elegant version of Tim's fix)

I offer that option also using Posi-taps... The choice is in the dropdown menu.

New photo of the options. Also have the option of FP connector only with custom length cable.

:confused:Sorry Burnszilla - I just don't get it? $26.95 virtually equates to the same price in sterling. I hate to 'wee on your bonfire' but....

If your FPC has failed, it is of no further use- so salvage and cut off the plug to re-use, add 20 pence bit of wire and connect to battery- job done-

For safety add a fuse (which also acts as a switch)
and better still for elegance, add a DIN plug
All in all - less than £7
I really can't see this as business opportunity
maybe it's just me:D
