FUEL PUMP BYPASS ?

Ok so i am going to Polland on the 1200, do i buy a spare fuel pump, a bypass lead, or risk-it-for as swiss kit ?

Is there any where you can buy the plugs to make you own lead ?

Buy a spare fuel pump controller and save yourself the time and effort of wiring in the by-pass.

By the time you have wired in the by-pass (and used a fused supply to switch the bloody thing off, each time you stop) you might as well have fitted a new controller... it takes no longer.

PS Find out how to fit it before you go. Sod's Law states you will be finding out in the dark, on the side of a Polish motorway in the rain, lacking a pair of long nosed pliers to pull the connector out with.

take it all apart

Left side front plastic or alloy side doofer

Remove the black pump cover with vents

Remove wires to the controller and the level device

Clear any accumulated water in there before next step

Remove the 3 x torx 20 on the fuel pump controller

Carefully pull controller up and disconnect the wires (don;t stress them too much) to the blue plug for the pump

Clean and Vaseline the seal where the fuel pump controller sits in the well

reassemble and use a car rubber mat to cover those STUPID vents that let water pool in where the controller is

I've 3 mates that I did this for all still on original controllers with 50,000 miles

If you're fussy borrow one from the stealership or buy it to keep

some dealers have boxes of functioning FPCs they've recovered after various updates.

see if you can blag one of them. install it to make sure it works, then re-fit your original. that way, you know you can do the job as well

the latest FPC is black powder coated. if yours is bare ally, bmw will give you the new one FOC. this is probably the best time to get the old one back


the black ones rarely seem to fail anyway.
