1200gs gear display /start problem

Hi guys, :beerjug:
just a wee groan! :(
Ive had 4400 very happy kilometers with my new 1200 gs :D :D :D :D
I have a Problem that has just developed; :spitfire
1st / Neut./2nd gear -appear blank on speedo computer thingy display panel ,
and even though Iam in neutral my bike thinks side stand is down and wont start with out pulling clutch in :nono :nono
However in 3rd gear + everything is hunky dory and gear selection is displayed ok :clap :clap :bounce1 :bounce1
Phoned the good service people and they think its a only a faulty switch and they will fix this week :bounce1 :bounce1 :bounce1 :clap
anyone else noticed this problem, or have an opinion :natter

I used to loose the display now and again told the service guy @ my 12000
and he gave the switch a spray with WD40 all now ok. I did however pull the cover off at home clean it up proper like and spray it with switch cleaner, let it dry off and did it again with ACF-50. good ole nippy. :thumb

Thanks bustupbiker I will give your suggestion a try tomorrow,
My main fear is if any other electrical problems happen on the motorway on my journey to the service centre.

Mine does it after getting wet (fording in particular).

It dries out again after a few days and works perfectly again.

If it's a new bike then why not let the dealer fix it - this is a well documented fault.

The switch assembly is suppose to be water resistant, but clearly some of them aren't. It's a warranty item, let the dealer replace it.

Mine's the same - done 5K miles. Until it warms up some mornings I can't get an indication on the console and sometimes it's hard to knock it into first. Just have to boot her harder. Not what you'd expect of a GBP12k bike really!!

try letting the clutch out slightly as you move the gear lever. helps align the gear dogs.
