very well reserched nice to see people base there opinions on the headlight and and a seat which because it doesent look like a parker recliner makes your [fat ass?] ache
make sure you have a sleep detector fitted wire in a tilt warning light from a old pinball machine while your at it ...thats why they have fitted air bags to it ........in your case it will be two air bags
your on the wrong site mate .... do one !!!

I find the BMW 1200GS seat is easy good for 500 miles in a trip, so you must have a very low pain threshold

I find the headlight fine if you re-adjust it upwards slightly and have never had issues with it.

Sounds like you bought completely the wrong bike anyway.
If the BrownWings is really your thing, stands to reason the GS is too rufty-tufty

I've always found the BM seats very comfortable BUT it takes a good 1,000 miles for them and my bum to bed in together. At first they can be like a plank.

Never had a problem with comfort, in fact I find it very comfortable for longish runs (well 350 miles for me is longish anyway).

Agree about the piss poor headlights.

Never personally fancied the almost 'riding in an armchair' type of bike, and by this I mean the style of it and not as an insult to those who choose them.

They are completely different styles of bike and so I don't see how you can really compare them. It's like comparing a Land Rover Defender to a Jaguar.

I've got a pretty luxurious car but I'd rather be on the GS any day - and it's the car that lives in the garage.

Dont know much about Goldwings - wouldnt be my sort of bike BUT lets not be blind to the GS1200 failings either. Twistgrip has made some valid points. My main issue with the 1200 GS is that I bought it as a RTW machine only to find fatal design flaws that to me make it impossible to contemplate using unless near to civilisation and a BMW dealership. Primary design flaw is the very badly designed fuel pump electrical connections below the LH side panel. How BMW ever designed such a ridiculous system whereby water is allowed to collect in a "perfect reservoir" around the fuel pump electrics (Yes I know they are sealed but sods law is that water will and DOES get into the connections) is just beyond me. What good is it in the middle of nowhere with a duff fuel pump? I am also suspicious about the longevity of the bevel drive- don't like the tiny sealed for life construction. On the plus side it is a great engine - just wish could be dropped into an 1150GS chassis and running gear.

Obviously you need the comforts of a car........................lets be fair you may as well drive one riding around on a two wheeled one
Wonder how many miles you did on the 12. Obviously your not used to riding motorbikes,,,,,,,yes the headlight is crap.hence we put proper lights on it and yes the seat is hard till its bedded in.and hey your right why cant BMW fit a proper headlight (the one on my 1300 Pan worked great) but at the end of the day you can go a lot quicker, faster and over a much more varied terrain than on a Wing....................... ridden by OAPS

I borrow my uncles Goldwings when i got to see him in California.
(1000,1100,1500)
The 1500 is a lot better than it looks but the rider backrest means your arm muscles do no work.
The fuel warning lights come on at just over 100 miles (dont forget I am 270 mile man on 1150GS) which is ridiculous.
If you go from San Jose to the Lick obseratory and then over to Livermore its 100 miles without seeing anyone, run out of petrol and you are in big trouble.
I got a bit depressed when I saw a Sacremento 400 miles sign so nailed the beast, 97mph down hill, starting to weave but not going any faster.
Even an R80 is better than that.
No good off road either.
Still each to his own !
