A new SE

Well i think i will be getting myself one of these, but just to make sure, i thought i would go to the BMW website and 'build' as 1200 and a GSA with all the toys just for a price comparison.

And to my suprise and joy the SE in on the 'build your BMW' bit.............................with a price of £10,787. Thats £500 cheaper than i was told at the dealership. Will be into Vines tomorrow to put a deposit down and show then that price!!!!

and nearly £700 less than a normal 1200S with same options (but minus spoked wheels and smoked screen ) !!!

I am giving up to be honest.....Do these people not want to sell a bike or what?

Thanks for the advice guys, I may well be having to contact a dealer further away for a deal...I have the cash ready to go and yet they are not interested....Maybe they see me as a pain int eh ass if it comes to warranty shite.....

Congrats to you.

I am buying an 1100(at the moment)....When I find one.

I have done extensive research starting with the 1200.
My conclusions are:
1200 too unreliable in too many areas, associated with inbuilt facility for extensive electrical problems!! Plus all the examples that I have veiwed second hand were not too durable, the paint was flaking off of them everywhere, looked very tatty, very quickly....Does not bode well for the future, I am not an extreme bike cleanser!

1150 too heavy.

1100 Lighter than the 1150 and a much more reliable machine than all of them built so far, if one chooses the 97 onwards build.
This machine can be repaired at the side of the road in most cases and is still relatively old technology.

Lastly : Price......I could not bring myself to waste 11K plus on a motorcycle, goes right against the grain when there are so many other things to spend my hard earned on.

I can get an old clunker out of the money I lose as I wheel a new one out of the showroom And I still get to keep 9.5K in my bank account to spend on other things, like long trips......I know what I would rather do.

I am buying an 1100(at the moment)....When I find one.

I have done extensive research starting with the 1200.

Curb Weight; 1100GS - 243 kilos, 1150GS - 249 kilos. A whopping 6 kilos difference. How extensive was your research?

I had the 12k service on my 1200GS today at Ocean. I had intended to run the bike into the ground but when Richard the rep came over and offered me reasonable money for my 07 against a new SE. I checked the spec: £1700.00 worth of extras over the price and thought feck it, why not. The 1200 has been around long enough to iron the gremlins out. The SE represents a really good deal by BMW's standards. I put my bike down as a business tool so I need the VAT receipt that comes with new. And I thought: seeing as how long I am going to be dead, why not?

I am picking it up in September with the 59 plate

THe SE has everything I would have put on a standard GS. Put a deposit on one today at Coopers Tunbridge Wells. Should be available Early July I hope.

GS SE

Really like the look of this. My current bike is a standard 12GS with ABS, X spoke wheels, TPC, ASC...and having ridden the ADV before, I much prefer the nimbleness (if thats a word?) of the standard bike. When not touring, take the boxes and the rear seat off and let it rip in the twisty's. Looks to me the best bits of the ADV are on the SE
I bought my GS purely as a road tourer, not a desert crossing supertanker.... and I like getting off it every 220 miles or so to fill the more than adequate tank up. The SE looks stunning and I could be sorely tempted
(or should I wait for the 1300 boxer which is sure to appear now that an SE is released?)

New Bike

After lurking on this site for 15 months I've finally taken the plunge & ordered an SE.

Now I suppose I'll have to subscribe - assuming I can find the £12 after the outlay.
