1200GS WC FOR LESS THAN £10000

Hi all,
recently sold my Honda crosstourer DCT and looking to swap it for a 1200 GS WC, My budget is £10000! So my question is what am i likely to get? What should i steer clear from 2013 /2014/ 2015? All suggestions welcome but i know where this could go.

Look for either a 63 or 14 plate, as they'll have the steering damper, and the white springs. These bikes had a few subtle updates. You should find one for around £10k.:thumb

Been looking at a few, i want the best £10000 will get me, hopefully a 2014 r1200gs te low miles with a few bells and whistles.
 
Vines have a 63 plate with full luggage and nav with 6k miles for £10250. They'll deliver anywhere in the uk for a small fee.
 
I would prefer to buy privately and stay away from the stealer
 
Bahnstormer Maidenhead have a couple around that price. I saw a white one with metal mule luggage and engine bars up for grabs the other day as I strolled past on my walk to work!

They are definitely out there and now could be a good time of year to secure a deal :)
 
I would defiantly get a TE and test ride it and make sure you are happy with the gearbox! You should get a good choice for £10k, good luck.

Because they are 20% more and would like to get a newer bike with some warranty left

They're not 20% more though. Some bikes I've seen are less than a few hundred quid cheaper, if bought privately. There are some cracking deals at dealers at the moment, as they are trying to shift stock before the crap weather comes. Coupled with the peace of mind of buying from a main dealer, and having dealer warranty as well as manufacturer warranty, I know where I'd rather go.

Yep. BMW dealers have to give a dealer warranty on second hand bikes. On the age of bikes the op will be looking at, the manufacturers warranty could be expired or about to expire, so he'll still have the peace of mind of the dealer warranty.

The problem with buying one of these privately, is folk tend to bolt a load of accessories on, that they want, then add that to the price of the bike come resale time, which gives an inaccurate valuation. Personally, I'd buy the cleanest lowest mileage vanilla bike from a dealer, and sort my own accessories.

No, you will not have two warranties (a dealer & manufacturer) running side by side. It doesn't work like that

All used BMW's sold through the dealer network have to have a minimum 12 months warranty on them. So if your chosen bike is 20 months old it will have the remaining four months of the manufacturers warranty and a BMW approved used bike warranty topping up the remaining 4 months time only the remaining time can/could only be purchased in 6 month increments so in effect your 20 month old bike would come with a 16 month warranty

If this has changed in the last 6 months then forgive me

A word of warning - Be wary of those dealers who have two sites. One for selling the used BMW's from and the other used everything else

I had experience of an official BMW dealer a few years back who advertised their used BMW's through their Motorrad web-site (where they had to give you a BMW branded 12 month warranty) yet did the paperwork for the sale through their sister site where legally they only had to give you a 3 month 'Dealer' backed warranty

Just as well I spotted this before I handed over the money. I watched them do the paperwork for the BMW backed warranty and it cost them just over £200

A dealer backed warranty is not worth a wank when compared to the features & benefits of a BMW backed policy

This is partially true although there is something to be said for buying a fully loaded used bike, taking off the farkles you don't want/need, selling them on here then ending up with a cheaper version of the bike you wanted :thumby:

You can still buy privately and carry the BMW branded extended warranty over to the new keeper provided it was purchased as a 12 month policy and not being paid for by the old keeper on a monthly basis :thumb2

The man has a point. I'd also suggest that if you intend to run the bike beyond the manufacturers warranty that a basic, low spec machine may be a better option. The electronic suspension is just one example of techy bets that give problems and will cost a fortune if you have to pay to fix them. Buy a base model and then add after market parts that you want such as Wilbers own electronic suspension.

That's what I meant. When the manufacturers warranty expires, the OP will have the remainder of the approved used warranty.:thumb
