1200GS what is that in the oil level glasshouse

Interestingly I have been out in the floods!! A short cut recently led to me going through about 2 feet of water and I also have been needing to go through about 18 inches of water to get to work. Can water seep into the engine? The filler cap was secure. I am not sure where the air intake is but 2 feet seemed shallow when you see what the professionals do!!

bit surprised by the extent of the gunge and also where it is. normally to be found in a high spot where water vapour rises and condenses. have yopu been using the bike in the floods? green lanes? part immersion? is the oil filler cap secure?

2 feet too deep? I suppose it depends whether you do a white van man and ride through with a bow wave above helmet height! TBH I dont know where water could get in. It was just that the gunge seemed a bit much to result from a few short distance runs to and from work.

either way you need to get it out of the engine and the only way is to get the engine and oil really hot then change it. The oil that is.

You'd be surprised how quick condensation can build up in oil. I did 4 road test runs of 500 yards on my ZZR600, and the oil is already looking creamy.

Just competed 18 k but was hoping to stretch it to a combined annual service and the 18k but could be a false saving. Thanks for the prompt.

There is nothing to stop you doing a quick oil change yourself if you were worried.
