Hi there I dont know if this has been asked before but I was wondering what causes the GSA to be taller than the GS? Is it different suspension or just a taller seat?

The height difference is caused by the higher suspension (more travel) which is on the GSA. Think there is a 20mm difference.

Yep it has been discussed before somewhere, prop on the 1200GS forum.

The seat is also taller than the standard GS i.e. it is the same as the extra tall seat that you can buy as an extra for the standard GS. This means that if you replace the Adventure seat for a standard or low seat it will reduce the seat ht.

Best thing to do is to go into a BMW dealer and get them to swop seats on their demostrator to see which works best for you.

I have a low seat on my adventure from the basic bike, I feel that it is now in fact lower than the basic bikes standard seat.

That is definately true ........ My GSA with the low seat fitted is lower than a stock GS with the standard seat set to the lowest setting. The low seat appears to be narrower were it meets the tank so it doesn't splay your legs as far apart :clap

I believe the standard GSA and GS seats are the same height just different covers :D

Is your low seat a BMW product?, how comfortable is it? I've got the standard GS seat on mine, set on low, but would like a lower seat for a bit more confidence, I'm 5'10, I think when the bikes fully loaded I may get into bother!

I've got both the standard and the low seat for my 12GSA, the low seat is fine when the bike isnt loaded, but its not hugely comfortable for much more than 130-150 miles at a go, but it does give you the feel that you are in more control when the bike is stopped.

If you are loading the bike up, the standard seat on low will be fine as there is so much play in the GSA suspension that it sits down nicely...

Good tip for getting on is to sit the bike upright 1st this drops the over all height, if you have linked brakes, put the front brake on then drop the bike back over on the side stand. You'll find you loose a lot of the height and its easier to get on.

I'm 5'10 with 28-29" inside leg

your bike looks very, very nice with the adv black/red seat on, well done.

5'7 ish with a 29in leg (well 2 of them before anyone starts)

got the BMW low seat on my GSA and i don't struggle at all, except off road where stopping has to be thought through first

that makes two of us and I found the (demo) adv perfectly manageable with low seat fitted.

Yep it's a BMW Low Seat I bought from Shaun back in April 2 months before I got my GSA. As reported elsewhere it is a little hard on the butt after 130 miles plus :( I'm thinking about buying an Airhawk to get over the sore butt bit but I'm a little concerned that the extra 10mm in height the Airhawk will give me may be a problem :nenau

We shall see
