Anyone out there have there fuel guage fail completely. The other day it told me I had 60kms left then I set of for the petrol station and it rapidly counted down to 0 in about 30 seconds and has stayed at zero eversince. Filled up 3 times since then and still tells me I have no fuel.

Funny you should mention this!

I put £15 in the other day, showed half way on the gauge and about 250 mile range. Next thing I know it's down to 2 bars and telling me there's 139 mile range. This has only happened since it went in for it's first service.

Jumped on it to go to work today and it's back to normal again?

If it don't sort itself out this week I'm on the phone to the dealer

Bike back from service now. Fuel sensor replaced and fuel guage works now. However, the bike is an import (everything in km's) but the onboard computer is giving me the range in what seems to be miles! Spoke to the dealer and he said the programming thing does not give an option of miles or km's. BMW UK says I've got to raise a technical query via the dealer and this could take some time!

I have a Km bike... in my case not an import, I just specified I wanted a metric trip speedo and computer. I get range in Kms, but fuel comsumption in mpg.

It appears my trip computer and speedo are units that would have gone onto an Irish GSA, as those are the Irish units (km's, km/h and mpg). Do you know where the bike was "import"ed from?

I bought the bike 2 months ago in Germany. Before the fuel guage packed up a full tank would give the range as 700kms. Since replacing the fuel guage it now gives a range of 430kms when the tank is full (i.e. the equivalent of 700kms in miles). It's not really a major problem but since the bike is 3 months old I would just like it to work as it's supposed to. It seems that the average speed is OK and subject to a long test ride I'll check the litres used per 100km.

Well the fuel guage after filling up 4 times seems to have gone back to its normal self i.e. estimating thins in kms. Still not the most accurate thing in the world though - todays short trip (30km) started with an estimated range of 70kms left in the tank and after the trip reckons I've got 110kms left in the tank.

Anyone know how it works? Does it just read the level of fuel in the tank or does it try and be clever and work it out from the way your riding and it's just not a very good bit of software?

I've just done 1600 miles in 4 days and the bike was fab.

But the gauge/trip comp was crap.

I fill the bike to the brim-after about 10 miles the gauge drops 1 bar and then after that it steadily drops to 2 bars remaining over about the next 100 miles.

But it then stays on 2 bars from empty for about 140 miles, before it starts to countdown again.

Likewise, the range starts at about 350 and drops to 70-80 where it stays for about 140 miles !!!!.

Is this a familiar story and is it fixable ?

Snap on the fuel guage.

Brim the tank and the guage shows half (or less) full. Then the guage suddenly jumps to near enough full, sometimes after aboiut a mile or so of riding after the fuel stop. I say near enough as, nine times out of 10, the top 'choclate block' refuses to light up. I did find that filling the bike on the centre stand and then pushing it off with some force did seem to kick the guage into action.

I am going to bring it up when I go in for its next service.

No such problems with the vanilla 1200.

i was surprised to find that the guage doesn't update after fuelling until after i ride off :nenau

i put the odd readings in use down to a linear float in a very non regular shaped tank. not very clever though is it?

All

This seems to be a major problem with a lot of GSA`s. Mine is fantastic :D and I thinks it`s the best thing I`ve ever owned but it`s slightly let down by the rubbish fuel guage.

I`ve reported mine to my dealer with little real response although they are very helpful and sympathetic.

I`ve written an official complaint regarding this to BMW to see what response I get. I`ll let you know what happens.......
