Really appreciate some feedback on this before collect bike on monday. Last weekend i went to see mother in law with the missus in notts. In a rush to go out didnt put cover over bike which always do. Next day after massive downpour during night tried to start . turned over no spark seemed. After deducting few things remembered couple threads bout the fuel pump collecting water ontop and shorting.Hey prest fuel pump had mini reservoir of water ontop. By this time bike SOS had come out. I told him had feeling pump as just realised everytime now turned on ignition i couldnt hear fuel pump priming the buzz get for second as turn power on.
He transported me and bike to Benham wolves where they kept till next morning. All they could say is could be 5 weeks before get back too busy to even have a nose at it. Couldnt beleive it so got it transported back to where had last service, Jim Hill of long eaton .He was quick on case. Hour later rings and says no petrol filled up n started. So i said how does that explain no noise off pump priming. He said they dont make noiseon turning key on. Well i was baffled and felt coulnt argue with my knowledge. So turns out the notorious fuel strip to blame. cost £100 to find no petrol well it read 70 miles left and could hear some when didnt start but was on sidestand. Maybe lucky how arrived in notts with spoons worth of fuel left.
However i now cannot understand why it no longer makes priming noise which led me to beleive fuel pump if it is fuel strip. Something doesnt sound right. any ideas anyone before collect monday. Also why didnt bike SOS just try petrol would of saved 2 transport journies and loads money

Don't blame SOS for not spotting it was out of fuel, if you didn't.

Look on the bright side.....it could have sat for 5 weeks before finding out it was dry!

Don't know for sure because I've never tried it but I can imagine not hearing the pump if there was no fuel....there would be no load on it.

Oldest one in the book Fill up

Reset tripmeter

Refuel around 120miles if on std tank and commuting

Fuel Strips are complete schite and BM shouls be replacing then FOC !!!!

to be honest usual first thought but not heard about fuel strip prob and there sounded enough but not having blueprint of tank cant see whar requires to supply pump. still theyre pros should of eliminated obvious but yep if had left with benham cud of been kicking myself

If the fuel level is too low to allow the pump to prime it probably won't make much noise.

If you really think there was fuel in tank it could be the syphon pump not working. Fuel would be in right hand side and audible but not being transfered over. This is only if your SURE there was fuel. Run it and see but make sure your never far from a fuel station lol.

Bit of a pain though as mine regularly goes to 250 miles before I fill up.... yes I am old and have slowed down a lot, but it seems a shame to waste potential range on a bike I bought for it's touring capability.

Then do the sums. You consumption will be pretty accurate so work it out

............. cost £100 to find no petrol .............

:blast

The simple answer is never put your trust in the fuel status meter, it's merely an indication that there "maybe" some fuel in the tank.

Always use the trip meter and you will know how many miles you've got to go before looking for a petrol station. ;)

On average you will use 1ltr for every 10 miles - 22ltr tank = 220 miles. Simple. :augie
