Hi guys I have a 2018 on a 19 plate R1200GSA Rally TE but I am toying with changing to a 1250GSA TE, Anyone done the same and either regretted it or is happy with the change?

Cheers,

Cheers,

Ive done just that, over the moon. Didn't think there was that much different when I test rode the 1250 but now I think they are a mile better on power delivery..

I'll second that. Each successive generation of GS has been an improvement.

I had my LC GSA for five years and I find the 1250 to be much better.

I had a 2017 EU-4 GSA and hated how gutless it was...Got a 2019 GSA a good year later and lost 5 grand...but it was worth it considering how much more fun the 1250 is ! These people who say there is not a big difference are lying because the TORQUE difference is huge as also the valvetrain is much quieter !

I don’t believe it. This must be your first post without mentioning 150bhp and 17” wheels. Has your account been hacked?

Next year you will say same thing of 1250, new bike must be little better or no sale, logic no.

Let me put it this way...I did not buy a new 1200 LC GS for 5 years ! Why ? Because I did not feel the need because there was not much difference between 1200 Aircooled and 1200 Watercooled...I bought the GSA-LC in TripleBlack because I liked the looks a lot and needed a new bike but never really warmed up to it.
In comparison going from 1200LC to 1250LC shift-cam is HUGE !
The rear tire speaks the TRUTH as I get 50% less mileage compared to the 1200...TORQUE:thumby:
And yes I hope there will be a R1300 or 1400GS that will make the 1250 feel weak so I can trade up again...because I get bored with a bike after a season or two...;)
Only bikes that stayed with me longer was the R1100S which I loved over a period of 10 years (1998-2008),R1200R (2008-2012) and R1200GS-ADV (2012-2017).The 1250GS-HP could stay with me for a while,too...:thumby:Best BMW,best bike so far and trust me I had a lot of bikes since I was 16 which was 38 years ago...:D
An XR version of the GS with 150-180 hp would be the perfect bike for fast road-riding...but as it is the 1250GS with sports-suspension and cast wheels is already pretty close to perfection...All it needs is a little more power on top to make it more exiting and more high speed stability without loosing it's quick back-road steering ability and an inch more ground clearance if you want to take it to the track...:thumb And of course 2 full size bags if anyone from BMW looks into this forum here...;)

I changed my 2016 1200 GSA for a R1250 GSA, very pleased. Had a few gremlins with the SOS and engine management display, but nothing that stopped it.

Engine & gearbox really is a big improvement in terms of flexibility and usability over the earlier versions.

I was never a fan of the Matt red, but would try and spec black rims not gold as they are a PITA to keep clean

And we’re back! What about the 17” wheels though?

A special new M2500GS is being worked on just for you.
Currently putting out just over 200bhp.Will that be enough and can they sign it off yet ?

A different view...

I had a 2015 GSA and changed in 2019 for a 1250 GS Rallye. Had it for a year and was really disappointed with it. Yes it’s quicker and the engine feels smoother but after 12 months ownership and 5k miles the engine sounded like a diesel (knocking/tapping from left cylinder), the clutch bearing made an awful noise and the paint quality is shit... (my SW Motech tank bag attached by tank ring left a significant mark on the tank which couldn’t be polished out)...
So I made the decision to go back to a 1200 GSA, found a 2018 Triple Black GSA With 1200 miles on it and I’m soooo glad I did. IMHO the engine is smoother, certainly quieter and yes it may not be as quick (but seriously, there’s not a lot in it) but the build quality is better, and I think the 1200 GSA looks better than the 1250.....

Each to their own, but my experience of the 1250 was not positive...

Utter Bollox......

That’s exactly what people say to justify loosing £5k on a bike...

I'm in a similar position: I'd like to change my 2014 to something a bit newer.
Had an extended test ride on a 1250 and wasn't that impressed. Gearbox was marginally better, gsap still very agricultural, power delivery only slightly improved... And even worse quality of finish. Quite liked the TFT though.
I'm taking another test ride on a 1250 next week, but think it's most likely I'll stick with what I already own, or maybe get a late 1200.
I'd be very worried about buying a new bike... Too many "bad ones" about!

I forgot, the 1250's engine was very noisy too. Even with earplugs in I could hear it at all speeds. It was embarrassing when stationary!
Thought these new bikes were supposed to have a different type of camchain that was quieter? No chance!

I had a 2014 GS LC, which was fitted with a new engine when it was two years old due to paint issues, and now own a 2019 model 1250.

The 2014 engine was definitely more free revving than the 2016 engine with its heavier flywheel, but neither had anywhere near as much mid-range or top end power as the 1250 when using large throttle openings. Was it worth £9k to change? Absolutely not, but I could afford it and you only live once.

Arsey I like the Doppel-Kopf...you are wrong though...it has 250 hp...:thumb
Stanly lay off the LSD...The 1250 are still not Goldwing smooth/boring but mechanically much quieter than the 1200...and if you call the gearbox "agricultural" then you need someone show you how to shift or better get a Barffrica Twin with DCT...;) B.t.w. the LC gears & clutch are Made in japan...Much better and smoother shifting than a shaft-driven FJR for comparison...Harley gearboxes are agricultural !

Sorry for having a different opinion to the fan boy; I can see how you really don't like to see any criticism of these bikes. Maybe you need to take off the blindfold?

As in my post, I am trying another next week. Maybe the last demo bike was another "bad one"?

Nearly bought a modern GS today but it was too expensive

And the box was damp underneath so think the calipers were leaking :-)
