1200GSA or 1250GSA

And I bet there won’t be any 1250s on the road in 25 years time , given the current build quality

I think quite the contrary. There will be plenty of 1250s around, given the current build quality.

Yes I know, you've read all about it on internet ...

The fact is, the 1200LC boxer has been improved, piece by piece, every year since it was introduced, so, to this day, the 1250 is the best built LC boxer as of now. Even so, for next year, it might be even better. :D

Have a 2014 Adventure. Love the bike. 52000 km on the clock.

Tried a brand new 2020 Gs Executive with all the bells and .... you know. What an improvement! Great torque, great sound and just so much more drivable.

Enough for me to upgrade? No - but if I was in the market for a new bike, the 1250 would be it.

Now I tell you something...My first GS was a 1988 R100GS...When the R1100GS came out people said it is not a GS anymore with fuel injection way to complicated to fix 10000 miles away from home.Truth was the R1100GS was way more reliable than the R80/100GS with diode boards,u-joints breaking and valve seats wearing running higher rpms for a long time. Then the aircooled 1200 came being lighter, smoother, more powerful than the heavy 1100/1150 tanks.People said canbus is the end of the world and they are way to plasticy...In the first year the antenna rings gave problems as also the software was not programmed right and could drain the batteries bikes sitting. After that the 1200 was so good that the 1100/1150 became obsolete.Going to TC aircooled the bikes got more mid-range and for the first time good exhaust sound straight from the factory...:thumby: Better for sure but a mood point as the other 1200 where still good !
Than the 1200 with water-cooling which was witches brew to diehards like to the 911 Porsche people years before...A much better bike with build quality as good but reliability and ease of maintenance much better than all the GS generations before !!! No more overheating at long lines...no burning clutch smell or costly repairs of clutch/leaky rear main seals...changing alternator belts...adjusting/synchronizing throttle bodies ! Now with the 1250 the first Boxer that actually has some POWER and still tractable at low rpm pff rpad situations like an old 2-V twin...:thumby:
The 1250 is still a GS and much better/more reliable/cheaper to maintain than the origional...More power, better handling, fuel injection that does no synchronizing and wet clutch in front of the engine as the major pluses !
The only room for improvement I see is 2 full size bags , more power , more high speed stability and less weight and of course an XR version of the GS for people who only ride tarmac...:thumby:

Arsey , in 25 years there might be no R1250GS on the road anymore but this has nothing to do with reliability or build quality but with people getting bored and wanting something newer/better/more exiting to stay interested...Looking back 25 years ago to the 1100GS the 1250GS is pretty much the same bike but a much better one !
-no surging / perfect fueling
-much more power & TORQUE
-much better brakes/ABS system
-traction control to make it easier to ride for people who are hamfisted in the rain or slippery surfaces
-cheaper to maintain & more reliable due to wet clutch up front and electronic throttle bodies that stay perfectly synced
-better handling
-better suspension
-no overheating in idling situations
-much smoother shifting
-wet clutch can stand more abuse off road
The only advantages of the old one I can see , they were cheaper and did not have radiators or coolant to check for...and I can do without keyless !
So it will be interesting to see what the 2045 R1500GS will bring new to the table if we are still around...

I think you should be an author. Sci Fi maybe.

The E-Starr 1100 sounds more like a horror movie...No sound , too heavy , no range , time wasted re-fueling...
I think the bike will be lighter thanks to carbon-fiber replacing heavier steel or aluminum , more efficient , more power maybe electric turbocharging or flywheel regenerating power and then giving it back during sudden acceleration and also lean angle / traction control on the front-wheel to get to max corner-speed without crashing like Marquez every training session...This would be very beneficial to Crutchlow too...:D I think next year will be the year of an all new generation called R1300GS with C-F and cast pieces replacing the tubes on the frame (which saves weight & cost). The engine I suspect to be the same but getting more bore (and not all new with a 3 bearing crankshaft that would allow 10000 reliable rpm to get more top end hp and 750cc per cylinder) The rest will be cosmetic as well as LED cornering lights and the XR version with T-L for street only guys who can't warm up to the R or RS due to the divvy and get hard on the brakes fork...

And the bike will be-self-riding.
So.. If you planned to go riding and wake up with a headache you may send the bike on the ride on it's own while you stay at home...

Back to 1200 or 1250....
... Really liking the new bike. Still running it in but suspension, gearbox, gsap, brakes and overall smoothness is miles better than the old bike (2014). Turn in and stability is superb.
I wasn't bothered about the electronics, but loving them already... Hill hold, keyless, connected app... Brilliant

I had a 2017 GSA Triple Black (Non-TFT) which I loved.

I fancied a change and so bought a 2019 1250 GSA. Whilst I love the bike I am not a fan of the TFT or the 'SOS' button as continue to have issues with both.

Apart from a few times after I first got the bike, I don't tend to use the connectivity that the TFT offers. I found it regularly dropped connection which was annoying. The SOS button contunes to cause problems with various error messages/failure messages appearing. As I type, the bike is going back to the dealer tomorrow for another diagnostic check as the TFT has now developed yet another fault. I am now convinced that when it comes to technology and motorcycles, sometimes "less is more".

In an ideal world, buyers should have the ability to spec a new 1250 GSA exactly how they want it. For me that would be without the TFT and SOS button.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have kept the Triple Black. The extra you get from the new engine is not worth the hassle of the other problems.

I personally like the display on the TFT, far easier to read than the old clocks with my eyesight. The most common reason the SOS button brings up the error message on the TFT is due to loss of mobile signal and was the main reason I didn't opt for it on my 1250

I have a hexhead gsa1200 aircooled 2010 having fuel strip issue... display works then at internals shows yellow alert signal with fuel display vanishing... then after some 35km of riding fuel gauge display comes back working well... any tips how to go about it please?

Perhaps not the best section to post your query JoJo; perhaps try posting it in the 1200 Hexhead section.
