money is never an object in my toys:thumb2,never has been, thats why I,ve just accepted a 1k loss in 3 months,I just want the best tool for the job:augie, and on a RTW trip its a tenere, admittedly with around 4k worth of better kit on it!:augie

Who is going where?

the daily 30mile commute plus 2 weeks touring once a year but with some light greenlaning thrown in.
Please, all those of you who are going round the world, I don't think that was the original requirement.

Well they are not worth every penny for sure, in fact they are fookin well overpriced in my any many others humble opinion, however they are a splendid bit of kit with bags of character and just a few niggles which you will be told are all part of the fun. If you want smooth and slick forget the GS. They are built like tractors and sometimes feel like a Massey Ferguson, particularly around town, but get the old girls flying around the A roads or grass lanes and all is well in the world.

+1,

no where near value for money, but you will get lots of character and a bike that handles well (though it may feel odd at first). If the price isn't a problem then buy one, but don't expect 3 times the price to give you 3 times the bike! This is partly the law of diminishing returns and partly BMW playing on their (not well founded) reputation to keep the price up. The dealer back up is above average though, but again you pay for this. Find a good independent and you're sorted.

Enjoy.

Just been quoted £13500 otr for a GSA with all the bits? Means I would have to put 4k on the table, plus my 08 RT, 8k miles with all the toys.

BMW's don't depreciate much......MY ARSE

I just bought my 2009 '09' new GSA with every extra for £10800 - you're being ripped off.

Subsidies

All I would say is buy now - because the prices in the UK are being subsidised by the rest of Europe. Benefit from the low value of the £.
A BASIC 1200GSA costs 14940€ in France. (£12714 at today's rate.) If you add the 'essentials such as heated grips, ABS, computer, case supports you are up to 17000€ (£14.500) Then if you are lucky you MIGHT get the cases 'free'! 14500 -10800 = £3700
(My own 1200GS costs me 15437€ (£13000) a year ago with the essential extras - I bought the cases seconhand and made a BIG saving.)
However if you move out to France you will live longer because of the diet, the sunshine and the excellent health service BUT bring your bike with you.

Turraloon, Sorry mate but I cannot believe that price, where did you buy from???

I've been quoted the same price for a new GSA but with only the premium pack on. The Dynamic pack adds another grand or so

Details please!!

Thanks for the info Big Nick, I have it booked for a 2 day test ride but I'll try to negotiate before hand. I hate wasting peeps time if I know I'm not going to do a deal at the end. I work for myself, so I know how it feels.

Thanks again for the heads up and sorry if I've OT the thread.

GS the way to go

I bought an '07 57 GS with 4.4k over the new year B.H. from Vines and have just topped 8.4k after a weekend away in Derby and kettering. Full luggage and wife aboard. All mixed roads: M1 - B roada - A roads and even through West London 'cause of the crap traffic around M1/M25 at 6:00 (Charity Shield fallout I guess) and despite nearly six hours in the saddle yesterday it was a blast. Filtering just possible and A/B road traffic not a hinderance even fully loaded. Couldn't have done that on my Firestorm! Oh and got 54 to the gallon so minimal fill ups. And no break downs (yet).
