I've just got a new set of BMW Adventure panniers, which have the locks fitted, but the 2 keys supplied are different to my ignition key.
Is it possible for me to "re-key" the locks to my existing ignition key, or do I have to go back to the dealer to have it done?
If I can do it myself... a short explanation would be helpful :o

Cheers,

You need to buy part number ... 51 25 7 698 202

One for each lock barrel. It has all the bits to make it work with your ignition key. Keep the one with the "standard" key so when you come to sell it without the bike .. it has keys to go with it.

Thanks.... as I suspected... more money :blast

As I got a set of 8 locks with the 2 panniers (the spare 2 are for a top box) I decided to take a chance. I dismantled a couple of the barrels and played around with various combinations of the little slidey things until I had a complete lock that worked with my original bike key... from then on, it was only a matter of replicating this combination on all the other locks... job done:thumb
Luckily, I had enough of the number 1, 2 and 3 slidey things to complete the operation, otherwise I'd have had to have bought an assortment bag of slidey things... which is what Intermediate is referring to above, probably :nenau
FlatRabbit (thanks mate) gave me an excellent link to the advrider site which explains the whole procedure...

If you take your key and the barrels you want matched to a BMW dealer, they will re code the locks for you and will not charge you for doing it.....and in my book that has to be the easiest option!
