I have a May 2009 1200 GSA with 20,000 miles. It is out of warranty now.

This weekend I noticed an oil leak at the bottom of the rear shocker. It looks like it will need a whole new unit (it has ESA) at a cost of over £1000! The local dealer is asking BMW if they will assist/contribute in view of the bikes age/mileage but I wondered if anyone else had suffered similar failures?

Thanks. David

I dont have ESA but I've replaced the rear shock 3 times, twice under waranty and once with a 2nd hand unit off ebay, have you checked there? when i was searching before there was a couple of esa ones available.

If it was my problem to deal with I would contemplate having a set of Wilburs shocks mated with the ESA unit which I assume is still good? You can pick the OEM shocks off Ebay but you don't know how those have been looked after and you might end up the same way a few miles down the line. The Wilburs option is by no means cheap but from what I have gleaned off this site is they are a good shock and rebuildable. I'm not sure if the OEM shocks can be rebuilt.

I was covered.

Mine went last january 2011, my bike is a 2008 model and was also out of warranty. Bmw paid for parts and I paid for labour, which was £50.

I have not heard back from BMW yet but they are hoping BMW will pay. Thanks for the advice.

My was swapped under warrenty on its 12000 mile service. (2010 GSA). Rebound damping no adjustment. I didn't know, BMW Technicians found it!

BMW Contribution

Similar problem with my 2006 GSA 20K Miles, failed MOT due to leaking Shocker, BMW have contributed 70% of the cost of a new Shocker (Original price £680) Did not have any warranty.:bounce1

Thanks to Allan Jefferies.

Tommy Hill misses out

After one of the most exciting championships ever. Tommy missed out on the 2010 BSB title at the last round. Leading right up until Oulton Park, he suffered a first race crash and never recovered. Andy White (KAIS) was the chief suspension technician and was gutted but was also encouraged at how competeitive the ohlins suspension package had been throughout the year!!!

I spotted this on an American website over the weekend.

I know it's not directly relevant but I thought it was worth posting somewhere in here.:thumb2
