1200GSA to 1150GSA is it worth it?

Economic theory seems to suggest that we can think about the added 'utility' which is provided by the 1200GSA over the 1150GSA - a bit faster, canbus, complexity, newer, lighter handling - and compare that to the say £9000 my nearest BMW dealer would charge for the swap from one to the other. In essence, as the 1150GSA provides everything I reasonably need from a bike, the £9000 buys me no more 'utility' than I have at the moment.

If it didn't, I'd have to weigh £9000 against the added benefit of the 1200GSA - which is why I still have the 1150!

More to the point, I still love riding it...

Mind you, economics also appear to have allowed a massive speculative bubble saddle us all with more debt than Mexico, so who knows what to believe!

I rode 40,000km's or so around Australia & New Zealand on an 06 1150GSA and then rode 200km on an 06 1200 GSA, also in Australia. I found the 1200 more taught, quicker, sportier, more stable off road and ultimately more fun to ride. If you can afford the 1200 I'd personally go with that.

Regards,

Mike

First forum post so please be gentle.
Had an 1150GSA from '02 to '06 then a 1200GSA from '06 to '08 then my current 1200GSA. The 1200 is a great bike and does everything well but for me (and quite a few others it seems) it really lacks the character of my first one so it has to go. Ideally I wanted a black 2 spark ABS but have found an '02 silver non abs 7k miles mint apart from a scratched right hand guard and engine bar. Its up for £5690 (private). I've lost track of values and price guides seem pretty useless. Is it worth it? What do you reckon guys?
I can add to this ....maybe

I'm in the other situation . I have a minter of an 1150GSA and am considering an upgrade to an 1200GSA
People say I'm mad ( but have said that for years!)
I guess after three years I just fancy a change?

Dooh

:blast

What am I saying!

Make sure you keep the 1150GSA, whilst you try out the 12GSA for a couple of months

Very glad I did......................otherwise I would be:tears:tears:tears now

mmmm I wish I could afford too !
Its one or another

luckily I'm just thinking about it at this stage
next step is test riding one and seeing how much it will cost to upgrade in good old £ for a similar equiped bike

PS I didn't mean to hijack the thread
Sorry:blast

If this helps
I took a 1200GSA for a test ride today of about 50miles thanks to a local dealership.
They offered a derisory PX against my bike (£3500) against a brand new
( standard) 1200GSA.
I'd rather sell my bike private any day I know how good it is ( only 21k miles for C**** Sake! and fully kitted out)

The PX was a laugh the 1200GSA did NOT impress me

The 1200GSA kept flashing warning lights on the dash which I believe is a canabus fault:blast NOT a good advert when you are trying to sell bikes to 'Joe Public'
It was not a sure footed on damp roads as my 1150GSA
It was very skittish under the metzler rubber ( new tyres ) generally I was 'Unimpressed'
It only felt lighter as it had no panniers fitted ( demonstrator bike)

I think you need to stay with an 1150GSA:thumb

I will be keeping mine......

Full stop

Good luck

PS

TAKE A LOOK HERE a higher milage but £4500 ono!!!!

This bike is a bargain
I'm nothing to do with the seller just pointing it out to you

Thats the asc flashing letting you know your rear wheel is going at a different speed to the front!!:D

Er no it wasn't an ASC light, it never stopped flashing from when I picked it up till I handed it back.

The salesman said " don't worry about it, it just needs a bit of a service before its sold!" he did say what it was but I was more concerned the bike was safe to ride! Than to remember what it was

Lets just say I shan't bother with the 1200GSA in a hurry! Nor that particular dealership

Now a fully kitted KTM adventure.....well :augie
