Well fckn blow me down. All week since operation tank ring replacement, been smelling petrol. No leaks found or seen, just fumes on start up and riding. So you start thinking, was this always the case? Did I put the pipes back securely, did i pinch a pipe etc. Or am I now in that vacuum of the blind biased test scenario where because you know you have removed a fuel pipe there is suddenly a smell of petrol, or was it always there...Looked at the old fuel ring I had removed and noticed a thin rubber gasket...MMM. Anyway, so for the 3rd time I removed all panels and tank rings etc to check if I had seated all the pipes back correctly. Indeed I had, but what I did notice is that the gasket that sits underneath the tank ring was not there. Now for the third time its refitted and I am confident that was the issue.
What does piss me off slightly was that when I asked M works for the quote on a complete second hand part, they sent the photos and said this is what we have...what they failed to say is that the part did not have a gasket, did also not have the red tipped plastic penis end that goes on the inner cap. Their part arrived with a cable tie around the penis insert! Sans red tip...So when I saw this mid original swap, I substituted my cap (hence springs firing all over the place as detailed already )... should have rung bells. I assumed (me bad, but my query was for a complete second hand tank ring and cap) they meant they had a complete used part and naturally the gasket underneath is included... I assume what they were saying is what you see is what you get...Just as well I kept the old part and noticed the gasket ring. Anyhow, third time lucky and its now as it should be.
