2015R. I snapped the fuel filler hinge when filling up recently. Did the same on my 1150, you'd think I'd have learned about cheesy metal now..Anyhow, I have a spare fuel filler cap assembly for my keyed bike. Can I just remove the ring and cap (as was possible on the 1150) and swap barrels over, if that makes sense. This seems a lot more complicated with lots more going on bar a just a ring, cap and hinge..PS, it's the one on the right for keyed access

OK, in case anyone else has to do this...Its taken me 3 hours get it right. Yes, all panels and snorkel must come off both sides. The top central panel cannot be removed until both hoses are taken off on left and right. I used cardboard to pin them in place but that soon got messed up with more and more coming off.
Then you need to unscrew the cap assembly from the tank ring. The screws are F tight. I guess loctited in. Careful but its tough and a Philips head. Removing the is from the top, with the key. When you remove the cap from the ring and open it, springs and loose leaf rocker wafers go flying. The best way to replace it and get it seated easily without breaking the hinge is to remove the black backing and insert the tank cap assembly, then re screw the backing. Inserting the barrel is tricky as its a tight squeeze through the hole and you have to hold the spring loaded lock in to open the keyhole enough. So I set about re assembling the panels. Ended up with 1 spare screw and no way would the tank ring screws line up. Couldn't jiggle or poke or get any of them in.
Undoing it the second time was faster. Again all plastic off. I then put 3 screws in the tank ring and fastened everything back up (I didn't screw all in or any on the first attempt as I had to refit my sw motech tank ring). So top tip for future is, first secure tank ring assembly to central panel on tank before tightening anything up. All back together and no screws outstanding. Result. Some screws may well be in different holes but I went with the bigger collared ones where more load or depth was required. Quite happy now, but on the 1150R it was just 6 screws and out...

I added a givi ring to my 1200LC & 1200 TC

The TC requied me to remove the cap and insert bigger pivot point & bar ( not the leccy version)

it was pretty straight forward ...

I think all of us want to know what the F*ck are you doing to break the flaps off??? not once, but twice !!

Over envious reach with a fuel nozzle from behind the tank. Fuel hose rips the cap off. You'd think I'd have learned..

Well fckn blow me down. All week since operation tank ring replacement, been smelling petrol. No leaks found or seen, just fumes on start up and riding. So you start thinking, was this always the case? Did I put the pipes back securely, did i pinch a pipe etc. Or am I now in that vacuum of the blind biased test scenario where because you know you have removed a fuel pipe there is suddenly a smell of petrol, or was it always there...Looked at the old fuel ring I had removed and noticed a thin rubber gasket...MMM. Anyway, so for the 3rd time I removed all panels and tank rings etc to check if I had seated all the pipes back correctly. Indeed I had, but what I did notice is that the gasket that sits underneath the tank ring was not there. Now for the third time its refitted and I am confident that was the issue.

What does piss me off slightly was that when I asked M works for the quote on a complete second hand part, they sent the photos and said this is what we have...what they failed to say is that the part did not have a gasket, did also not have the red tipped plastic penis end that goes on the inner cap. Their part arrived with a cable tie around the penis insert! Sans red tip...So when I saw this mid original swap, I substituted my cap (hence springs firing all over the place as detailed already )... should have rung bells. I assumed (me bad, but my query was for a complete second hand tank ring and cap) they meant they had a complete used part and naturally the gasket underneath is included... I assume what they were saying is what you see is what you get...Just as well I kept the old part and noticed the gasket ring. Anyhow, third time lucky and its now as it should be.
