Looking for some guidance here on my first GSA.

The bike is a 2019 with 5000 miles and on the way home from the dealer I noticed a weird knock coming through the bike but mainly through the foot pegs, more the right hand side one I think.

There is no sound but is only felt through the pegs and happens when going over small road imperfections, sometimes cats eyes and mostly expansion joints and ripples in the road.

I haven’t had a chance to change different suspension settings to see if it makes a difference as was pissing it down on the way home and still trying to find out how stuff works.

Dosent seem to do it over larger bumps or speed bumps etc so that kind of ruled out the centre stand banging or moving.

Have scoured forums and some have said it’s a common fault and they all do it so looking for some feedback to see if anyone else has had something similar or whether I need to take it into dealer as it’s under auc warranty.

It’s quite annoying every time it happens as it’s hard to believe this is just something the bike should do, as it feels like a ball joint or bush failing, is a real mechanical metal on metal feeling through the footpeg.

Have grabbed the rear wheel and pulled at different positions to check for play in wheel/hub/ swing arm but seems fine.

Apologies if this has been covered already but just wanted some other experiences from you guys on here.

Cheers

All my GS/GSA have given a solid thump up through the pegs when riding over catseyes etc.

My 1250GSA is no different.

Its a feature. :nenau

Mine is 2021 GS and I have the same. The bike has 20000 miles now.
When I first felt the knocking on the footpegs, it got me worried. The bike was less then a year old back then. So, I started to investigate and what I found out calmed me down.
Basically, what you feel is the splines moving in and out on the drive shaft joint. Funny enough, when you stop feeling the knock on your footpegs, that is when the problem starts. Splines may be rust frozen between the driveshaft and rear drive.
Then, servicing properly the driveshaft makes a lot of difference, After I serviced mine, when my bike was 2 years old, the knocking was still there but it was smooth as there was a lot of spline lube in there.
My bike is now 4,5 years old and I feel that knocking is getting harsher, so time for driveshaft service again, I guess.

Agreed and this was my initial worry when I first started riding the GSA (my first ever shaft driven bike) I use to really worry

but 8000 miles later and a couple of services by BMW and all is good (plus I know the shaft was changed just before I bought it)

Thanks for this thread it’s made me feel a lot better. I have the exact same issue and it’s a lot worse at speed (75-85) leaning to the right. Really feels uneasy when it’s knocking through the foot pegs. I can’t understand why you would release a bike that felt like that.

Hi all

Done about 500kms on my new-to-me 2021 1250GS, something similar. I feel it as a vibration/resonance rather than a knock, again over poor road surfaces like where a layer of tar/chips has worn away. Feel it through the pegs. Is this what ye are describing?

Yes mostly. Try riding a fast(ish) road with a right lean angle and you will feel the vibration more.
