1250 GSA - Still a wise move?

Last week I took my 2021 (71) Triple Black GS 1250 with 19K on the clock into my local Dealer's hoping to trade it for a new 1250 GSA. The condition of my GS is good without any damage and fully serviced etc. After sitting down with the Lady on the Computer I was offered a deal where providing I took PCP (That I could settle after the deal was done) they offered about £2,500 off the new GSA (£1,000 from BMW and £1,500 from themselves).

All was looking good until she came up with the final figures and I asked how much they were offering for my GS. Was told this was £9,000 as now an obsolete model with the R1300GS being available and also due to having 19K on the clock. I stood up and walked away.

Later checked their own Web Site that showed a similar 71 reg GS Triple Black with 15K miles at £13,499 another 71 reg Triple Black GSA with 14.5K miles at £14,999. Seems that they were just trying to claw back their discounts with the offer of £9,000. I understand they need to buy below what they sell for otherwise they would soon be out of business, but £4,499 mark up between the buying in and selling prices seems excessive.

Checked online with with "We Buy Any Bike" and even they offered £9,000 though subject to inspection!

Try another dealer?

My local dealership wants 1k profit clear. That’s after any service they do, warranty they add etc.

Obsolete, sounds like some salesspeakbollox to me? I traded in my March 2020 GS TE Exclusive at the end of December. Admittedly it has fewer miles than yours and was mint, but it was a 20 plate so at least 18 months older and Cotswold gave me thousands more for mine than what you were offered. If your bike is in good condition as you say you could try them. Looking on their website my old obsolete bike is no longer showing so I'm guessing it's already been sold.
I deal with Steve Guest and am a repeat customer (y)

Hi Littleade, I think I might take a trip to Cotswold next week. I've bought three bikes (2 new 1250's and one used 1200GS) plus all the servicing from my local Dealer in the past six years so felt I would be considered a repeat customer and get a reasonable deal but this doesn't appear to be the case.

Thanks to you all for comments and suggestions.

This is the problem, some dealerships are too greedy and aren't happy just making money on the sale of a new bike. they don't seem to see the bigger picture. it's all money, and lack the thought of what personal service could bring.

Cotswold has always been good at competitively priced accessories for me.

It's certainly worth a trip up the M5 to see Steve, he's good to deal with and will do his best to put a deal together that works for both of you. He normally doesn't work on a Thursday and I'd recommend you contact him and make an appointment so you can be sure he's available when you arrive rather than just rock up on chance. The coffee's good too.

I live an hours ride from Cotswold so Weston is probably about the same, they're not the closest dealer to me but came recommended from this forum. The service department are good too. You can book a service appointment which is very useful, last time I booked a 2pm slot and they had my bike serviced and ready to go ready for me on my return from a test ride.

I’m not overly convinced the new 1300 is going to work for me and am certainty considering replacing my current GS with a GSA. My bike is out of warranty in May so I’m now keeping an eye on any deals that maybe about.
That said after having to have new engine cases on my bike, issues that came with that and the new ( hopefully) better finish on the 1300 I may wait for the new GSA or possibly go elsewhere.
My GS warranty runs out in April so I am in the same boat. I find the ride of the new 1300 too firm and the bike feels too small after the 1250 so I am debating a new 1250 or hanging on for the adventure. I heard a whisper that the GSA 1300 (or 1400 if that is what it is called) hits the shops in September. I have two long tours between then so may need to bite the bullet on the BMW warranty until then. That said, I have had overseas problems twice and needed BMW Motorrad roadside assistance - both in the last three years and it was a total shitshow on both occasions. There must be a better option, at least for that.

!
They are telling porky's, the GSA is still a current model as there's no 1300 GSA as yet, probably won't be for another year at least if they follow past practises.

Sadly this profit above all else and not giving the customer a good deal, like forcing PCP or credit terms both of which they get a healthy kick back on.

Beyond a warranty period, having main dealer servicing isn't worth it. Especially when it's sold as a 'retain second value' and they then knock you when you trade in, so they can profit all the more, just greed. I think there's even an argument that it's getting doubtful during a warranty period too!

Personally, unless you really must have a 1300 for some reason, I'd sick with the 1250 GSA and wait until the 1300 or 1350/1400 (if speculation is to be believed) GSA appears. I know of a couple who've jumped and now regret it!

He doesn't have a GSA.

Last paragraph - “The GS adventure will arrive at the end of the year”

Hi all, I had a change of plan!

Rather than trade in the 1250GS for a new 1250GSA and need to find roughly £8,000 to do so and then the new GSA itself losing several Thousands during it's first and subsequent years. I am now keeping the 1250GS and have bought a One owner 2015 Honda DCT 1200 Crosstourer that's like new, done just 8,000 miles and cost me £6,500 with most of its depreciation already taken care of. I was riding a manual Crosstourer before moving over to BMW so am familiar with the Crosstourer. Now I have two Bikes that are similar but different enough to enjoy riding either.

Problem solved - for now :)

I had two Crosstourers before my GS, manual then DCT, very underrated bike. I always felt that if Honda had continued it and given it a few of the toys we expect these days ( cruise etc) I’d have probably been on my third now.
I’ll be honest I do miss my DCT. That was a 2015 model but had over 20k on it when it went.
If I’d had the room I’d have kept it.
