1250GS vibration?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone out there with a 1250 has noticed any vibration through the pegs, bars and seat?

I'm not talking about bits falling off levels of vibration, but it is there at a level were its really noticeable and annoying etc. It occurs all through the rev range, but at motorway cruising speeds it is particularly noticeable unfortunately. I've done around 500 miles from new and I reckon this has started to occur from around 250 miles.

I've ridden a demo bike previously and didn't notice anything. I've had two 1200 LCs previously (an R1200R and R1200GS) and both were silky smooth in comparison.

Any thoughts welcome.
 
Maybe your tyres.I currently have Bridgestone fitted and no issues.Mine is an adventure though.
 
Not ridden for a few weeks, but can’t recall any long noticeable vibration periods on the bike. I think most if not all bikes will have a small vibration through the bars and pegs, not sure on the seat. If it’s a concern take it back to the stealers, when they open up. Tyres will have an effect, but again shouldn’t be that noticeable .
 
I’ve done nearly 5,000 silky smooth vibration free miles on my 1250 GSA.

It currently runs on Anakees but will be changing to Roadtec 01s when the time comes or before my planned Spanish adventure (fingers crossed) in September.

Definitely back to the dealer for first service, if it’s really annoying before.
 
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I'll certainly be taking it up with the dealers, when possible that is.

It's my first experience of Bridgestone tyres so possible I guess that that accounts for the difference between my R1200 LCs and the 1250. I'm just hoping it's not a Friday afternoon one atm.

I think I'll take another demo out too.
 
My 1250's vibes were more noticeable than on my 1200.
It's not too bad but it's just enough to make you aware of it.
Through the pegs is OK but the vibes through the bars annoyed me on longer trips. I fitted Grip Puppies which helped but the vibes were still there.

The best £40 I spent was on Evotech bar ends. They are pricey for what they are but all the bar vibes are gone. Honestly, with the Grip Puppies and Evotech, the vibes are 100% gone :thumb2

Mine vibrated badly and didn't like it.my advice is to get BMW to take a look at it through your dealer.I did and both come up trumps

So does the 1250 vibrate more than the 1200?

I’m on my 5th 1200 since 2005 and I don’t want to ‘upgrade’ to a vibey bike - guess I’ll have to take a long test ride.

No it doesn't , has the same feel , lumps bumps and warts , but the engine is soooo much better.

Just a small point with the Road Techs , you will be riding in hot conditions with roads that grip like shit to a blanket , the road Tech if you push them will get squirmy on the front and feel odd due to the wet weather nature of the tread pattern . I say this as they do it in the uk as well when you get pushing the bike. I did a trip in Euro and the tyres were awful, it was two up but never again. Consider the Conti Trail attack 3 brilliant tyre never gets flustered .
 
I second the EvoTech bar ends. Expensive for what they are, but for the results they achieve they are well worth it.

Cant argue with that , we have different styles. Just thought I would mention it from my experience , may struggle with 5000 miles tho.
Also it not hard to out preform Anakee or the Tourance.
 
I didn't like the feel of the standard handlebar grips on my 1250, they felt too weedy for me. I mulled over whether to get Grip Buddies or Grip Puppies.
The main differences being price, diameter
when fitted, and fitting technique. The Buddies are dearer, thicker, and wrap around the bar as opposed to rolling on like a condom . I chose the Buddies from Nippies, they do feel a lot 'thicker' in
in your hands, (my glove size is large) . They also reduce the effectiveness of the heated grips by about 35%, you can leave them on setting 2 all day and never get uncomfortable with summer gloves. I was never bothered by vibration through the bars anyway, but don't notice anything with the Buddies fitted. I believe they do a Grip Buddies Lite now which don't increase the diameter as much and wouldn't reduce the effectiveness of the heated grips so much.
I think I would purchase these next over the originals.

That's interesting to know. Do you remember what the dealer found to be wrong or at fault etc?
 
I would agree on the tyre front

Karoo 3's on my GS above 60 the road noise / vibration was awfull even with plugs in

Changing to Trailriders was like riding on cotton wool, likewise the Tourances

some tyres are just inherently noisy

To be honest they all come to the conclusion it was a rough one.always felt a different vibration to what I was used to,very harsh like metal grating.Ive had 8 of these thing so new what they felt like.my local dealer was fantastic about it and so was BMW uk.Cannot talk more highly for both and thats why I stay with them.

I am not quite clear what the vibe here actually feels like. Is it related to engine revs, or road speed whatever the gear ratio selected? The solutions vary & I appreciate they remain difficult to explore ftb.

I was amused to learn from Post #18 that a 1250 has been diagnosed as being 'a rough one' - nice one Sherlock. What has the dealer actually done to improve the riding experience, if anything?

It reminds me of a Suzuki dealer who I asked to check out a leaking fork seal on my Gen2 Busa, whilst under warranty - they cleaned up the witness & declared the seal good as it hadn't leaked on their all too brief test ride & sent me on my way. I get home, about 25 miles later with oil pissing down the LH forkleg....again. Lazy fekkers, they just did not want the bother of pulling the fork leg & changing a seal despite advanced warning of the problem. Same sort of mindset; treat customers as a nuisance &, surprise surprise, you soon won't have any customers to bother you.

It's hard to describe precisely, but for me at least the vibration is more of a tingling felt through the bars, seat and pegs. Yes, it is related to engine revs, barely noticeable low down the rev range, but most pronounced around 4000 rpm.

So, in real world riding pottering along at low speeds it is barely noticeable, as the speed increases it gets worse. The killer is on motorways and dual carriageways at motorway speeds. It would be virtually intolerable for me going any great distance.

Most years I will go on several tours around Spain and the rest of Europe, which I have done on 1200GS twin cam, LCs (GS and R1200R) and all were great and very different to this 1250 I have so far. In fact even the twin cam I remember as being better (albeit a few years ago now so hard to remember precisely and maybe playing tricks).

The other thing is I reckon the first few hundred miles the vibration wasn't there.
