1290 SAS Replacement Battery

Not had a problem in the last 16 months/8.5K miles until this morning the bike wouldn't start. Get the relay 'click' suggesting the battery has gone. TFT display just keeps recycling with each click

Bike is 16 months old, 8.5K miles in. Info on the display indicates 11.4v.

To be fair it's not been on a trickle charger when parked up in the garage (no power supply supply) and I don't get to ride it every week.

It's now on charge at home and I'll we'll see how it fairs tomorrow, but after a battery fails on me I'm always worried it will let me down again and I start looking for a replacement.

The Yusa isn't cheap at £64 and I'm tempted going for the £44 Motobatt MBTX9U sold as a YTZ14S looky likey.

Been happy with Motobatt on other bikes but haven't had to buy one for a couple of years.

Anyone had early battery failures and if so what did you replace it with?

No failures, until last week when the SAS came out for the first time in a few months. Battery was dead. Jump started it from car...tried bump start on steep drive but just locked the wheel.

I fitted a lithium battery when new. Got them on all my bikes and I rate them. They feel like a toy they're so light. If you ever have a flat battery (left lights on or the like), once the bike is started the battery recovery rate is phenomenal. They get rid of a good bit of up-high weight.

Just to add to that, the SAS clearly uses some power when not used. Probably the keyless system but I don't know for sure. Otherwise, the good thing about Li batteries is that they hold their charge for a very long time without dropping off, so in theory, no need to keep on a trickle charge. No good if the bike uses a bit of juice when off though.
