12GS final drive seal install instructions

I have searched for info on how to insert a new final drive seal (off side) in the forum but with no luck. How can I seat the new seal without the correct "tool"? thx

I thought it was just a large socket? I'm sure somebody who's done the job will be along soon..........

I am told you need a tube type tool that can push the seal home. I was thinking lolly pop sticks to qently push it in but I don't know if i will get enough pressure with a wooden stick....

the problem is whether or not the recess the seal sits in is machined to provide a positive stop to locate the seal?

if it is: knock the seal in with a hammer on a socket until it stops.

or

if there is no stop: measure how far back the seal sits BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE SEAL. of course, you need to do that anyway, just in case.

then

knock the seal in as above, stopping at the correct point (tricky).

or

make an approximation of the correct tool.


whatever....forget the lolly sticks.

Use the old seal as a driver.
Drive it in until it stops.

Step away from the lollipop sticks.

I was looking forward to the pictures using lollipop sticks. I bet you can get titanium touratech lollipop sticks for a tenner each
