Video of a fairy big crash in the Syrian desert, on a fully loaded 12GSA

The guy was lucky to have his friends with him to recover him and his bike

The bike wasn't so lucky, it was totalled.............big style

Crash happens at the 4 min mark, so fast forward if you want to avoid the pre-amble

Nasty.

Hamada is nasty to crash on, and it can change in a couple of feet from something you can ride flat out on, to a surface you wouldn't want to run across let alone ride across.

Nice ending though......good he made it :thumb2

Derserted

Poor bastard at least he looked reasonably ok, so take note all those who slag off the idea of back vehicle!! and those who don't do such trips on their own!!.

I wonder was it the swing arm splitting that brought him down???

It all looked to be going wrong at the Stern and it slewed quite pronounced to the left on him with lots of dust from the rear

that fucking hideous music would have downed the best of riders.

could have been a puncture?

Nasty one that and a nasty surface for muscle and bones to communicate with.
Always good to see a smile after the smelly stuff hits the fan.

I think it was just an area of bigger stones/rocks.

His brake light doesn't come on, and it appeared he was trying to ride it out with some throttle on (probably the right thing to do) but it doesn't take much for a larger rock to start the front wheel waggling.

In the larger rock areas, sand builds up as well, 'cos it can't get as easily blown out.

So he hit the area at speed, went into a bit of a tank slapper and ended up doing a high side as the front tucked in.

They are good bikes (i have one) but imho riding it at that speed over that surface, in a remote area is just stupid ,when it goes wrong in the dirt it usually happens when you least expect it. Still each to their own:rolleyes:

Hardly surprising that something gave - the size of those rocks & the speed they were riding at ! - the casing just had to get hit at the wrong angle & it would have no chance - I doubt if he could get that through as a warranty claim :D

By the looks of the slow motion replay he was very close to wearing his 300kg bike travelling at speed. Having a GSA land on you is not my idea of offroad fun.

I wonder if any of them have slowed down a bit since?

Heh heh .... Yep I reckon they carried on with the holiday barely getting out of second! :D

Glad he's ok though ..

Yuo sure about that brake light  Looks like it came on a couple of seconds before things went wrong:blast

Having had the "mother of all tank slappers" , (and rode it out) I wouldn't wish it on any one.

Good for him for getting out of the situation, could have been so much worse.

Does seem to look that some thing happened at the rear end, rather tan the front end though.

Gra.
