Is a 12k & 12 month service really > £400?
Struggling with the idea that the brake fluid needs replacing at £50 a pop.

Shop around ..... if you don't want the brake fluid doing then don't get it done. If you don't like the price of the dealer's oil then supply your own etc etc

Take a ride over to Nottinghamshire to see Mikeyboy. He's good value and you get an excuse to ride over the Peak District. 
The brake fluid thing is about corrosion within the abs system. Now I dont know how realistic that is, but the abs is expensive if knackered.
Having said that I never understood why my bike should cost more to service than my car.

brake fluid is hydroscopic,it absorbs moisture,this can then lower the boiling point of the fluid,worst case could be brake failure under prolonged braking.
this is why it should be changed biannually.
i include a brake fluid change on every full service,as well as final drive oil, and its a lot less than £400

Bahnstormers £300 with brake fluid change....it's the winter...workshops are slow...do a deal.

How is a brake fluid change done on a bike with abs? Is it just like one without?

pretty much the same principle just more bleed points,servo bikes are different though.as the reservoirs in the servo pump need to be topped up so the tank has to come off.
i seem to remember there is a few threads on here showing how its done.if you are going to do it at home have a good read of the manual first.

Robb I've serviced my GS myself and saved hundred's of pounds. It's not difficult and the BMW Club can lend you a GS911 electronic tool to reset the service indicator, balance the throttles and flush the ABS system.
I'm near Warrington if you need any help /advice

Do you have any information/guide notes about how a GS911 will aid an ABS system fluid change?

Cheers, I'm a lazy sod and the bike is still under warranty so I generally send mine to a dealer.
Just a bit shocked it would need the brake fluid changing after 12 months.
It's good that there are 3 dealers in range so I shopped around and then went to the usual

I do understand that brake fluid absorbs water from the atmosphere,but the braking system is sealed,and although i may be wrong,it seems like a short service interval at just a year. i think the first brake fluid change is one year, and 2 years thereafter.
reason i was given was that the dealer had no idea how long the bike may have stood around before sale. sounds like guff to me.
